This foam is nearly wide enough to cradle the width of an AR. The only thing too wide is the charging handle. This foam is very thick and sturdy. This is what you’ll want to hold your heavy items in place when placing them in a solid or secure case. I used it in a soft bag that has straps to stabilize the equipment in the foam. This is very high quality PE foam, very sturdy. Of course, there are other manufacturers of PE foam that sell it for less. Also, other manufacturers' foam tends to be a bit easier to work with in terms of making cutouts for instruments. Living in the Southwest means plenty of wild boar hunting opportunities, and flying with firearms can be a worrisome ordeal if you’ve invested in quality firearms/optics. After arriving in Texas with an expensive scope rendered useless, I knew it was time to step up my gun case game. Nothing against Pelican, but money doesn’t grow on trees. I actually couldn’t be happier with my choice in my travel case choice! When any latch is thrown on this case, it “snaps to” with motivation and intensity. The foam is dense but cuts easily enough for fine adjustments. I used a fine tooth saw for the longer cuts. I also bought extra foam inserts so I can just change the insert to travel with different rifles/pistols/ammunition boxes. Great setup, couldn’t be happier! ... show more

Good sturdy foam that will keep firearm secure in the gun case while traveling. Will not scratch/scuff your valued firearm. Can be easily cut to custom fit your case and firearm. Will buy again!
