This is my first time owning a hard shell luggage, formerly I have only had soft sided. I was surprised with how light this is and how thin (and flexible) the casing is. After doing some research, it seems like German polycarbonate is high quality stuff, the same material used for bulletproof glass and riot shields. It also turns out that the flexibility is - forgive the pun- actually a flex. It allows the shell to absorb shock without cracking, as this is how polycarbonate functions. After the initial surprise of how light/thin this seems, I was able to appreciate some of the high quality features of this suitcase. The suitcase locks easily and the zipper pulls pop up when you open the lock. The lock code is easy to change. The zippers zip smoothly with very little effort. The handle slides up and down easily and can be locked at almost any length. The color of the metal bars of the handle is a beautiful opalescent pink. There is a low profile handle along the vertical side which pulls out for an alternate carry option (there is also a handle like this on the top side, in addition to the extendable handle). The inside has two additional compartments, besides the main, one in the lid, which is covered by mesh for easy visualization of contents and the other is a removable compartment that is large and flat and can be used along with the straps and buckle in the inside to press down clothes. The unboxing experience is premium, so this is something to keep in mind if you are considering this for a gift. Is comes in a nice box and then it also wrapped in a canvas bag, which could also be used as a dust cover for long term storage. One downside to this is that the outer shell doesn't have any pockets as a soft sided luggage often does. This means you can't have easy access to a few items from this luggage during travel. Overall, if you are are looking for a high quality travel experience, this is a good option.

This suitcase is marketed as a 20-inch airline-approved carry-on, but the actual exterior dimensions are 21.5” × 15” × 8.5”. For a hard-shell case, that size matters and may not meet stricter carry-on limits, especially for international flights. The title is misleading, and I would not have purchased it if the true dimensions were clearer upfront.

This is the kind of suitcase you buy when you want strangers in the airport to know two things: You travel. You have taste, money, or at least the ability to pretend convincingly. At $275, this carry‑on is priced like it’s going to personally negotiate with TSA on your behalf. And honestly, with how dramatic the marketing is — “aerospace‑grade German polycarbonate,” “curved eggshell design,” “inner anodised aluminium bumpers” — you’d think this thing was engineered to survive reentry from orbit, not a Spirit Airlines gate check. The wheels are “cobblestone‑proof” and “whisper‑quiet,” which is adorable because the only cobblestones this bag will ever see are in the influencer district of Charleston. But sure — let’s pretend you’re rolling this through ancient European streets instead of Terminal C. The handle has “multi‑stop telescopic height settings,” which is a fancy way of saying: “We know you’re picky, and we’re trying to impress you.” Inside, you get a Y‑strap compression system that “creates extra room for last‑minute additions,” which is code for: “You’re going to overpack, and we’ve accepted that.” The stain‑resistant lining is a nice touch, because nothing says “I travel often” like a suitcase interior that looks like it’s seen things. And then there’s the size. Marketed as a “20-inch carry-on,” but actually 21.5" tall. That’s right — even the suitcase is lying about its height. It’s basically the Tinder profile of luggage. To be fair, the build quality is solid. The color is cute. The wheels glide like they’re auditioning for a figure skating competition. And the lifetime guarantee is basically July saying, “We know you’re going to abuse this thing, and we’re ready.” Final verdict: A stylish, overachieving, slightly dramatic carry‑on that costs enough to make you question your life choices but performs well enough that you’ll defend the purchase anyway. This might just be the perfect suitcase for me. I really dislike cheap suitcases with terrible wheels that can't even go on one trip before it starts rolling like a 10-year-old grocery cart. There's a lot more going for this suitcase, but the wheels are solid, durable, totally portable easily even with a lot of weight in the bag. The shell of the suitcase feels thicker and more protective than other ABS bags I've tried. Inside, the zippered sections provide infinite adjustability, making it possible to pack more items securely. The handle feels more substantial, like it's not going to break at any moment. I no longer dread traveling when I'm rolling this bag to the gate. Recommended.

I have been a long time soft-sided two-wheeled bag user. When the opportunity to try out this July suitcase came up, I was intrigued. I am going to compare this to my experience with Monos and Away. The unboxing experience is very premium on all July products I’ve tried thus far: the bag ships in a burlap-like bag inside of a gift-style cardboard box - if you're thinking about giving this as a gift, points for July here. The bag itself exudes quality. The plastic is very well molded - I could see no lines, mold marks, nicks, or unevenness in the color. The zippers themselves run very smooth on their respective tracks, even the secondary interior zippers (which some brands try to skimp out on). The bag feels very lightweight for a hard-sided bag - slightly more than my old two-wheeled soft-sided bag, but certainly not heavy. I feel like this bag makes good use of its size with smart features that help with organization. While it has no exterior pocket, this leaves a large, roomy interior. Like most hard-sided bags, it has two practical "sections": one side with a zipper creating a fully-enclosed compartment of sorts, and another for the garment compression. The garment compression pad and the straps feel extremely high quality, making use of quality seatbelt-like material and metal hardware. I was very pleased walking around with this bag: the wheels feel just as good as those on the Away or Monos luggage my wife uses, with quiet, smooth rolling and rotation. This has, in my opinion, the best handle of the three brands: clearly July invested a lot here to have a handle that is smooth to operate, sturdy when extended, and that can lock into nearly any height you desire. This makes it very comfortable to roll through an airport. I had a backpack slid over the handle and it didn't feel like the bag was going to topple over. Overall, I think this bag offers exceptional value and features for the money. All the bags from these brands meet my expectations and are well-made, but I think July takes the cake for its handle.
