I grew up using various vegetable oils to maintain my cast iron but sometimes you get some off flavors or aromas and a little stickiness from them. So far I’ve not run into that with this oil. It goes on and wipes off cleanly and easily.

So Caron and Doucett do great cast iron cookware and wooden cookware maintenance products. Their seasoning oils are different between the two lines - but only marginally. My wife has made the cast iron cookware her daily use, and it has been a breeze to maintain thanks to the Cast Iron Soap, Salt Scrub, and Seasoning Oil plus chain mail scrubber. If you want to cook with a pan that will server your family for multiple generations, use Caron and Doucett to help you maintain it.

Your cast iron oil keeps my Lodge 12 inch skillet in tip top shape, always ready for the next meal without leaving a residue or detracting from the next recipe. Based upon this prodcut I also purchased the cutting board oil. FANTASTIC! Just the right viscosity and rejuvenates the wood. I highly recommend your products. I guess it didn't click when reading the product description how small this bottle is. When I opened the box and saw how little it was, the first thing I said was "WTH? What a ripoff!" I admit I was pretty ticked off but decided I would give it a try anyway because we'd come across a stash of cast iron cookware that was in a moving box which had been mismarked a couple of moves ago by military movers during one of our base transfers. We finally got around to opening the box (which was labeled MISC PLANTING ITEMS....go figure), the pots and pans were dried out and needed to be re-seasoned. Everything was given a good scrub and then we used this oil to re-season them. Wow, what a difference a good oil makes. Once done in the oven, the cast iron looked brand new. There wasn't any off or burning oil smell, no greasy residue - just a set of great looking cast iron cookware. Since their cleaning and re-seasoning with this Caron & Doucet oil, these cast iron pots and skillets get constant use. We haven't run across any problems with aftertaste, odors, or abnormal food stickage. All it takes is a very small amount to fully coat a cleaned skillet or pot. We've been using this little bottle for almost a month now and still have 3/4 of it left. Gotta admit I am impressed with this product now that I'm over the sticker shock. One improvement I wish they would make would be to include a spray top. After misjudging how much oil to use on the first couple items, I found a empty metal spray bottle that was purchased empty for some craft project but never used and luckily the spray cap fit this bottle perfectly. Being able to simply spritz the cast iron surface then wipe it down is quicker and easier and can help the oil last longer since it is a lot easier to control how much you use. If I had realized how small this bottle was before clicking the "Buy it Now" button, I probably wouldn't have purchased it thinking It was too expensive and would have then wasted time looking at similar products on Amazon and other sellers as well as instructions on doing this with other oils. It IS pricey, but some of the other DIY methods we've tried on our cast iron cookware haven't had results as good as we got with this product or the smell was awful when the oil used went rancid on the cookware. But, I am glad I wasn't paying attention as this turned out to be a pretty darn good product. I did deduct a start for not having a spray top and for the price which could come down a couple bucks.

This is the first time I am using this oil. I try to pour some onto the pan and it dribbles down the side of its container which gets coated in the oil. According to the directions, I can either pour some of the oil directly onto the pan and move the oil around with my hand. Not so good with a hot pan. Or the other suggested method which is better and that is to pour some on a cloth and use it to coat the pan. Not as hot. The oil's smell is pleasant. If there were a way to make the bottle non-drip that would go a long way in my estimation. Although, once in the pan, it seems to do the job it was intended to do. However, as of now, it is too messy to use for me. I am now using this product in the bottle seen above. It is an improvement over the original I bought in the metal bottle. I really like the product and will continue to use it.
