    • Exactly what I expected, which is a good thing!
I'd had this jacket in my "save for later" Amazon cart and saw the price drop (which saved me about $25-$30 over what BPS would have got me for) so I ordered it. As I was already on the road to visit family for Thanksgiving (and was staying for a few days to hunt), I had it sent to their house. It got there too late for opening day - not a delay, that's just how the timing worked out - but I wore it the next day. I needed a new jacket because briers had finally taken their toll on the Redhead jacket I had. I got the blaze orange Carhartt because I was tired of fighting with those flimsy nylon vests every season. As many already know, Carhartts generally run a little bit large, but I'd had the opportunity to try one on in a store before buying. Mine is a 2XL, the size I normally wear, and it has plenty of room to wear several layers underneath. (Good thing, too, 'cause it was COLD!) The jacket performed just as I thought it would: very comfortable, blocked every last screaming knife blade of wind, and the next day when temps climbed to the low 40s, kept the rain completely out. I love these jackets! As I said, they run large so decide how you expect to use it most often before selecting a size. If you're usually between sizes, that means whether you'll be layering underneath it or wearing it by itself. By the way, although this jacket will definitely keep you warm, you can also wear it unzipped in moderate weather and not get TOO warm. But the overall best thing about it is that on the first day I wore it I got my deer! Hooray! Great jacket in general, and lucky too! ... show more

So far so good. I'm 6'4" and 250 pounds. I normally wear an XXL and that's exactly what I ordered, thankfully the jacket fits nicely. Initially I was a little worried because many suggested ordering a size down. If you're a bigger guy too then don't worry because you can order your normal size. It appears to be well made and replete with a large hood. This is exactly what I was looking for, as my wife and I make at least two trips back to Ohio per year, with at least one trip being in the winter. It's usually snowing or raining in Ohio that time of year and this hood will do a great job at protecting my ears and face. The material feels rugged, the lining feel nice and warm, and the gold zipper appears to have decent build quality. It feels nice and heavy but there is still room left over to accommodate extra layers. Shipping was great and the product arrived in a few days. The color is spot on and I like the front pockets, as they are large enough for big hands... even with gloves on. In conclusion, I recommend this Carhartt jacket for its build quality, the fast shipping, the affordable Amazon price, and finally because of the fact that it's truly American made! ... show more

I have bought Carhart for years now. Love their products. As an OTR truck driver they work well for the brutal winters wherever I travel. Perfect for throwing chains, or walking into a truck stop, and nice enough to wear at home taking my wife to dinner.

As expected, this jacket fits a little on the large side. Since it's loose-fitting, it will be easy to layer clothes underneath it when the weather is extremely cold. It's not often extremely cold in my part of the country so I won't have to do this much. Around here, temperatures seldom dip into the low 20 degree F range and it has been no colder than freezing since I bought this jacket. I've been wearing my jacket with a tee shirt and I've been comfortable, even in a strong wind. When the temperature is in the 50 degree range, this jacket is still comfortable when unzipped. The lining is soft--very soft and nice to the touch. The hand warmer pockets are nice to have but they're unlined...wear gloves if you want to really keep your hands warm. The material is Carhartt's cotton duck which is thick, stiff and wind resistant. It's also very tough material so it will stand up to abrasion and lots of hard wear. The hood is fully functional and warm since it's quilt-lined like the body of the jacket. However, the hood is bulky and the material is stiff so it stands up pretty tall even when down. I usually wear a hat with a full brim when outside and that simply doesn't work well with the hood. When down, hood interferes with the rear section of the brim. When up...well, a hat is simply out of the question. I have noticed the material in the hood has gotten a little softer with time and wear so it may eventually allow me to go back to wearing a hat. Until then, it's a baseball cap for me--just like everyone else. I haven't worn this jacket in the rain so I don't know how water repellant it is. I have another Carhartt jacket--a chore coat--and it is not water repellant whatsoever. A spraying with Scotchguard should improve water repellency if it's to be worn while working in the rain and snow. If I were going to improve the jacket in any way, I guess I would add insulation in the handwarmer pockets. I would also make the hood detachable so guys like me could wear their hats from the get-go. Neither of these points are deal-breakers.
