  • Poorly made for the high price
Update: Due to family emergencies, I didn't get to this until a couple of days after the return window. I wrote Amazon and they were EXTREMELY good about it. The representative not only approved the return but also ordered a replacement without me asking. The replacement is a different model, but it works great with no leaks and freezing during our colder-than-usual winter. Thank you! I've changed my review from two stars to five. I bought this because I live full time in my RV. In the past, I've mummified a short hose with heat tape and pipe insulation, and hoped for the best. It was marginally effective. This year I decided to spring for a high-priced, heated hose, thinking I might fare better. The hose looks great, especially compared to the alternative (which usually ends up with splits in the insulation and duct tape flapping in the breeze). It's lighter weight than I expected, which is also a plus. The heating element seems to work well. That's the good news. The bad news is: it leaks at both ends, right from the start. It seems to be leaking at the joints below the threaded faucet connections. The connections themselves are fine. That means ice will build up during extremely cold weather leading to a frozen waterfall and slip-hazard. It also comes with a whopping 3 feet of electrical cord. Instructions say not to use an extension cord. Good luck with that. I know of few places where that setup will work without an extension cord. It must have been designed by someone who never stayed at an RV park or state park campground. ... show more

  • Not cheap, but it earns it's keep.
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This hose is AWESOME, of course for the price I guess it better be. Definitely not cheap but it preforms great! We use it in -10f weather and it held strong, no freeze up's If you use this in just mildly cold weather like 20's you'll actually find running the water after it's been sitting for a while it's actually WARM! so it's weird getting warm water out of the cold tap but that just show show strong it is. you don't even need to put any insulation around it, it's ready to go as-is, although in extreme weather it might help.. but like I said -10, as-is, no problemo for this thing. worth the money if you wanna stay fully connected in the winter. ... show more

  • Survived the winter without freezing
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
This hose performed extremely well over a very cold winter. Pros: - Doesn't freeze when properly installed and insulated. Cons: - Hose is very stiff and wants to curl back to it's original shape. The heat tape forms bulges as you straighten out the hose. I was worried by this at first, but it did not seem to hurt the performance of the hose. - Hose draws constant power as long as its plugged in, meaning it's wasting electricity whenever temperatures rise above freezing. It's surprising that the hose does not have a built-in thermostatically controlled switch to power the hose only when the temperatures fall below 35 F. I bought a cheap "Thermocube" from the hardware store to solve this problem. - Hose must be wrapped with foam or rubber insulation, otherwise it *will* freeze. I wrapped the entire length of my hose with 3/4" rubber insulation and duct tape. This didn't take a lot of time, but I would have liked a hose which was already insulated. The pros definitely outweigh the cons for those of us who live in cold climates. ... show more

  • Great addition to our Airstream - winter RVing!!!!
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
The Camco TastePure Heated Hose was the perfect addition to our RV. We are full time adventure travelers and currently traveling in Colorado and Utah for the ski season. The hose was recommended and has worked perfectly during the snow fall in Utah. No need to spend time and money wrapping a water hose with heat tape - this hose works perfectly. Temp's have been in the teens during the night and low 20's during the day. I recommend running some water through it (like a shower or sink) prior to using it for drinking as it has an initial new "rubber" smell/taste. Just for a few gallons. I did and it tasted just fine. We also use a Camco water filter - again, placed on after running a few gallons of water through it first. I recommend it to our RV neighbors and they also made the purchase - and very happy they did - saved them time/money on wrapping a normal hose. Great purchase!!!! ... show more

  • Saved my tail!
Product Packaging: Standard Packaging
Living in Texas, I figured I would not need this item at all... Turns out this latest "arctic blast" proved me wrong! It got down to as low as -7 F in the desert! I had a previous Camco hose (which is equally as awesome, just not heated) and it froze instantly, causing my inlet to crack and freeze all through my RV's piping and holding tanks. Thankfully I was plugged into shore power and my water heater kept it from ALL freezing over, but I couldn't fill up water so a day or two we needed to manually fill the water. I had ordered this in anticipation for the col front, but low and behold, it arrived the day after it started and I was in the process of moving out of my old house, so couldn't hook it up. Because of how frozen the inlet was, I couldn't hook it up from there either! I had to wait another two days! But when that was done, I hooked this guy up and instantly fixed my problems. Warm water from the spigot ran into my inlet (which now leaks because it's cracked, but still fills my tank) and keeps the entire system from freezing over. Solved two problems with one purchase! Definitely helped during "wave 2" of the cold front which kicked in a day later, and snowed 5 to 6 inches overnight! Went outside to check on it and there was a giant crevice of melted snow where the un-frozen hose laid. Thought that was fairly humorous. It's a steep price to pay, but we would have been so miserable without it! Definitely a keeper, would recommend. ... show more
