  • This is what I was looking for.
I have a passive HDMI-DisplayPort cable that I've gotten to work in precisely one scenario with very specific equipment, and I've never been able to get it to work again with anything else. I figured I'd give this active one a shot, and as soon as I plugged it in, my monitor FINALLY lit up! I don't use it for anything where image quality, color quality or refresh rate matters, so I haven't tested those things but they all seem fine for my purposes with my secondary monitor. ... show more

  • "Active" makes all the difference
I was at my wits end. I had purchased an expensive artist drawing tablet which is a monitor that also functions as a drawing tablet. I knew my PC had a DVI, an HDMI and a DisplayPort, so I also purchased a cord that is HDMI to Displayport at the same time. The two arrived together, but when I went to hook it up my PC wasn't letting me activate all 3 at once. I spend days trying to figure it out. I thought it was a Windows 10 issue. But I also tried swapping the cords around, I tried unplugging the 3rd monitor, shutting the PC down, plugging it in while shut down, then restarting. I tried various methods to get to the old windows 7 looking display settings to see if that would work. I hit up forums and message boards seeing a lot of people having the same issue but no solutions being offered. The most common response that seemed to be the truth was that some graphics cards just can't support more than 2 monitors. I researched my graphics card and every place I looked said it could support up to 4 monitors (I wondered how, seeing as there are only 3 ports, but I digress). Then I saw one response saying you HAD to have a displayport adapter. So I bought one. What I didn't notice was the tiny little word "active" and I bought a passive one. When it STILL didn't work I was about to give up, or resign myself to just 2 monitors, or get a better graphics card. Then I finally found the answer on some random forum somewhere several pages into a google search that said in big caps letters: Must be an ACTIVE adapter" so I googled "active adapter" and found this. Ordered this, plugged it in. I was at first disappointed when my 3rd monitor didn't immediately respond, but I went to the display settings, selected the 3rd monitor, used the drop down to "extend to this display" and instead of showing the red text that my change couldn't be saved it WORKED! I am now the happy owner of a PC with 2 regular monitors and a 3rd pen tablet monitor. I'm probably dumb and a complete newb for not understanding what was needed at the start, but I feel like this little dongle saved my career! ... show more

  • Works well with Steam Deck and Docking Station
Works well with Steam Deck + First-party docking station. It requires an active adapter, passive ones don't work.

  • Perfect and exactly as advertised
I just bought a Lenovo 700 tower with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 video card that, among others, has one HDMI output and one DisplayPort (DP) output and supports up to 4K resolution (actually 5120x3200). My two monitors each have a native resolution of 2560x1440 at 60Hz with HDMI, DP, and DVI-D inputs. I am using both of them together for an extended desktop at their native resolution (running Windows 10, BTW). Since the GTX 960 has an HDMI and a DP output, it was a no-brainer to use an HDMI cable to connect one of the monitors. For the second monitor, I could have just used a DP cable and called it a day; it would have been less expensive. I am not sure if I made the best choice or if it matters at all. Both HDMI and DP offer their respective video resolutions, with audio, and up to 60 frames per second (fps). I decided, for consistency and probably for no other reason, that I wanted both monitors to be connected via their HDMI inputs. Hence, my purchase of this DP to HDMI adapter. Only Active DP adapters can support higher resolutions than the 1080p (1920x1200) of passive adapters, which again is different than a straight DP cable, which supports full DP resolutions. There are a good number of active DP to HDMI adapters to choose from, and I would just make sure you read the specs VERY CAREFULLY to ensure you pick the one that accommodates your needs. The last thing you want is a 1080p adapter for a higher-definition monitor or TV, or one that does not support the refresh rate or frame rate you expect. I have had good prior experience with "Cable Matters," so I went with them. Installation could not have been any simpler. I plugged the DP end of the adapter into my graphics card and my HDMI cable from my second monitor into the other end of the adapter. My second monitor came on immediately as the extension of the first. No installation or configuration of any kind was needed. It is just as if I had used a regular DP cable, so the end result is exactly what I wanted. There are no downsides to this configuration, and unless the adapter fails for some reason, I am a happy camper. ... show more

  • This is an Active Adapter that is required for nVidia Surround or AMD Eyefinity
I upgraded my graphics card from a EVGA GTX 760 4GB to a EVGA GTX 970 4GB, which has 3 DisplayPorts, 1 HDMI and 1 DVI-I Dual Link output, where as the GTX 760 has 1 DisplayPort, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-I Dual Ink and 1 DVI-D Dual Link. None of my 3 monitors have a DisplayPort input, so I needed this to run nVidia Surround spanning across all three monitors. Since the DP uses a different signal than HDMI or DVI that doesn't have a clock cycle, and the GTX 970 can only output the clock signal out of 2 outputs whether you you use the HDMI, DVI, or DisplayPort, I had to have this to use in one of the DP outputs and convert the output from DP to HDMI, and send that to the monitor. In order to use a DP adapter with more than 2 monitors you have to use the more expensive Active Adapters, not the cheaper Passive ones. It works good for what I needed it for, and it doesn't need a power source since it uses the power output from the DP. The only issue I have with it, and the reason that I took off a star, is that since there signal is being converted it has a delay when the monitors turn on. The two connected to HDMI and DVI will come on immediately and the one attached to this adapter can take as long as 10 seconds to come one. It isn't a big issue since this one is the side monitor, but if it was connected to the main center monitor it could screw with some things, especially during booting and POST. ... show more
