Description

The Bushnell Equinox Z2 night vision monocular enables you to see targets more than 1,000 ft away day or night with a power built-in IR illuminator. Stream live video to you mobile device and control zoom, video recording, image capture, and IR brightness directly from your mobile device. Fine focus for optimal clarity by turning the objective lens up to a full rotation depending on the distance of the object. Because the digital night vision isn’t as sensitive to light, you can keep the cap on when changing from day to night mode. The adjustable IR illuminator helps keep items from washing out at closer distances. The 3x model is great for viewing objects within 50 yards where a wider field of view is preferred. Available in base optical magnification of 3x, 4.5x and 6x with 3x digital zoom to assure the appropriate field of view. The larger the optical magnification the smaller the field of view.

  • Okay but flawed
Style: Z2_ 4.5 x 40mm
This is basically a CMOS digital camera with a switchable IR filter and IR-friendly optics. It is pretty sensitive to near-IR but not far-IR (i.e., heat) so it does not directly replace a true image intensifier. The image sensor has 1080p resolution but the eyepiece display is much coarser; it looks more like 640x480. The eyepiece diopter adjustment is very limited; I am 66 with age-related presbyopia and I could not get it to fully accomodate when wearing glasses calibrated for distance vision. The battery cap is difficult to replace: it has a strong spring force that must be overcome while at the same time attempting to start a fine thread and it tends to crossthread unless you are very careful. I bought the Z2 with the suggested NiMH rechargeable cells; these seem to work okay although the battery indicator never shows full charge since their voltage is lower than alkaline cells. There is no provision for an external power source. The IR illuminator is very powerful even at the low setting and uses the battery up quickly. The WiFi function works reasonably well with the Android and iOS apps although there is a 1/2 second lag with the live view; that makes focusing difficult. The processor locked up on a few occasions when trying to transfer a picture via WiFi or USB. Sometimes when attempting to record video to an empty, freshly formatted SD Card it would fail and required a power cycle to work again. ... show more

  • Works great.
Style: Z2_ 6 x 50mm
Bought this for night time surveillance of my property and to observe game at night. There was no discernable change in focus of the screen text with the eyepiece focus ring, but was still able to see the screen text ok. Was impressed with the unit during twilight until it got dark, then realized that the IR illumination didn't work in the 'night' mode. With new batteries installed, there was absolutely no difference detected between the off, low, or high settings. I have to believe that the IR illuminator is defective on this unit, so I will be returning. ( UPDATE) Thank you Amazon. I received the defective unit on Monday and requested a return with replacement. Two days later on Wednesday while I was at UPS drop off site to return the defective unit, I received a text that the replacement unit was delivered. Thanks again Amazon. The replacement unit works great, actually better than expected. Clearly could count the number of points on several buck over 200 yds away. The camera mount is a plus as I used a monopod to steady the image to better take pictures. Also, when mounted on a tripod, images can be viewed on a smartphone or tablet with WiFi using the Equinox app. I gave it only 4 stars because I found it to be a little heavy and bulky to operate while holding it by hand. It would be nice if it had a padded hand strap instead of the simple wrist strap. Over all, this works better than expected for night vision in this price range. ... show more

  • You will need to focus it manually, then.... More like a spotting scope.
Style: Z2_ 4.5 x 40mm
I was hoping to use this device as a way to be better informed about my surroundings. For those who sit and look from a single location, this is the perfect choice. On the move, not so much. I walk my dogs every night and was hoping to use this device as a way to be better informed about those really dark areas. I don't keep the flashlight on the whole time, so I bought this as a way to improve my awareness. It works poorly for that purpose because there is no easy way to use this monocular and be easily informed. It stems from the fact that I cannot keep it on the whole time and just raise it up to my eye. The battery life is too poor. So I'm placed in a position to have to turn it on when I think I see something, my flashlight is way quicker. Then, you are faced with the requirement to adjust focus and carefully for every distance. It sees really well into the darkness, but you have to stand there, turn it on, focus and it all comes into view. A flashlight is faster, much less discrete but way more efficient, so I'm not sure this is right for everyone. I've enjoyed standing and looking around in complete darkness, but it works way better if I used with a monopod or tripod. Thus my original point, use it like a spotting scope in dark, it works great for that. I have the 4.5x version and it has a 3x digital zoom feature. So we start with 4.5x and can reach out effectively to 13.5x. If you use a tripod and the cool Equinox z2 cellphone application, you can see what your monocular is looking at on your phone really clearly. I hope this helps. ... show more

Style: Z2_ 4.5 x 40mm
The scope is well-built with a solid feel to it. Bushnell didn't scrimp on quality of parts with this scope. It's super easy to use right out of the box; the controls are pretty intuitive. The two buttons on the left control power and capture images, and the "arrow pad" on the right controls the rest. The port for the USB plug and the Micro SD card are above the eyepiece/battery door. The lens cap it held on by a pretty decent tether. The worst part was the waiting; I had to wait for darkness like a little kid waiting for Christmas Morning. I finally had to take a nap and wait for darkness. This thing is pretty amazing in the dark; with the built in illuminator (850nm), I was able to get useful illumination out to 286 yards-at that point I could see the people on the walking path. With an external focused illuminator (940nm), I could see the trees at the end of the block 560 yards away-not necessarily enough to see detail, but enough to see the silhouettes of people walking on the sidewalk. The WiFi is a cool feature, but I haven't played with it enough to form an iron-clad opinion one way or the other. Battery life is abysmal, especially with WiFi and the internal illumination set to max brightness. Fortunately, with the latest firmware you can power this scope via USB. ... show more
