  • It's a beautiful desk and is true to the pictures - Assembly is a COMMITMENT It's a beautiful desk and is true to the pictures - Assembly is a COMMITMENT
I bought this desk because I am working from home and need a lot of space for these monitors, which are each 20 inches, for the perspective. I am very happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend this desk. Here is my feedback: PROS: - The finish is very pretty. I got the Harvest Cherry. It's not "wood", don't expect wood and you won't be disappointed.. this is particle board that has a finish, but it's a nice finish. You do want to be careful not to chip or scratch it, but it's not made of glass. I am honestly glad it is not real wood because this desk is very heavy already. - It has enough space to hold everything I need it to hold. Two 20-inch monitors, two laptops, some odds and ends, keyboard, mouse, etc. One of the sides is a little bit wider than the other (the side with the cabinet), just an FYI. The cabinet can fit a standing CPU or you can use it for whatever. - It's not too big and not too small for a space... It's a good-sized desk to have to sit at all day. - It looks exactly as advertised. No surprises. - I thought the glass in the cabinet looked a little cheesy in the advertisement but I wanted the desk anyway; in actuality the cabinet is pretty nice. I thought there were colored bars in the glass in the picture but it's actually just how they cut/designed the glass itself and that's how it looks when it's photographed. The quality is nice. CONS: - Okay, let's talk about this assembly -- there are 31 steps and some of them have these mini-steps. It WILL. take. A GOOD FEW HOURS. (Like maybe 4 hours) ... Do not underestimate this. It is not terribly difficult, you don't need to be a rocket scientist, but this is not a walk in the park. You CAN do it using only a screwdriver but my hand is in paaain now; a power screwdriver might really help as some other reviews have said. You have to screw in like 300 THINGS. :O D: The finished product is worth it though. My hand needs a spa day now but I am chilling at my nice new pretty desk lol. --- I did have to take a break and come back to it... - Guys, seriously, it's a whole carpentry project. You will need a screwdriver, a hammer, and some wood glue. The wood glue is for the dowels but the finished assembly will not be "relying" on the glue as it will be held in by other pieces; it's just very good measure and helps a lot during the process. I thought about it after-the-fact and would really not recommend skipping the glue, avoid the temptation if you don't have any and go get some lol. Be careful not to lose these little nails, it comes with the exact amount of things you need and it's a LOT of little screws and metal pieces. The good thing is the instructions are not hard to follow at all, everything is clearly labeled .... make sure you look closely at the drawings and pay attention when it says "finished side up" etc so you know your pieces are in the right orientation. On two steps it will direct you to watch a video to help, which is nice. - This phone holder shelf thing is kind of pointless. It would have been better if it were a real shelf... it won't fit many people's phones and I think it will be more convenient just to charge my phone and not have to string all these cords through to that part. But I don't mind it, it's not bothersome to me, it doesn't look ugly... I just doubt anyone is really using that feature. Maybe I'll just put my phone in it to prevent losing it. *shrug* So the desk has a little quirk. Probably everyone who ever sees your desk will be like "what's this part for" and you'll be like "I am not really sure" .. - You CAN put it together yourself, but it would be WAY. EASIER. with a helper (and the instructions say that you need one on four or five steps). If you do it yourself, you will have to use some boxes or something to hold parts up at times. I really do not recommend putting it together by yourself unless you have to. . ... Particularly the step where you put the big heavy slab on top and you need to make sure 22 bolts line up with 22 holes omg... I was SWEATING. (I am a 5' 3" woman, for the perspective... maybe if you're a big strappy dude it won't be a problem)... CAN it be done alone? Yes. But it's not made to be put together alone so please be careful not to hurt yourself. If you are strong enough to lift and install one of those older heavy window air conditioning units on your own, you can probably do this. If you are not, don't even try this, please get a friend; with a buddy it's probably a piece of cake. All in all, I REALLY like this desk. It was worth the assembly and the time. I am very happy with it. ... show more

  • Great desk, well constructed, love it. Great desk, well constructed, love it.
Color: White
Overall, a beautiful piece of furniture, well constructed, great price, great manufacturer customer service, and very suitable to my needs for my office. Totally satisfied, highly recommended. I really love this desk. It is exactly what I was looking for, and I looked at a lot of them If you are trying to assemble the desk on your own, I have made some suggestions regarding the assembly of the desk on your own, based on my experience. I highly recommend that you contact Customer Service should you have an issue with assembly. Don't rely on my experience or how I managed to build the desk on my own. Of note is that the assembly instructions are pictographs , so look at them carefully while assembling. I did contact Customer Service regarding a damaged piece. They handled my issue professionally and with great friendly service. The issue was resolved promptly and a replacement part was shipped immediately, at no cost to me. I have a home office that had a built in desk of about 7' long. It was adequate, but did not provide the desk top area that I needed, nor the storage. This desk provided all of that. It is very well constructed, the components fit together with no gaps or misalignment. It comes with a file drawer, a supply drawer, an under counter cabinet for storage, as well as two shelves one I use to store printer paper (3 3/4 inches tall) over the cabinet, and a second shelf ( 6 inches tall) over the drawers, that I use to store a package of file folders, envelopes, etc. I put the desk together with no help. I installed the desk top on the larger base unit after completing its assembly (a deviation from the instructions), and moved the larger base unit into place with some help. I supported from bottom of cross piece, not picking it up under the lip of desk top (that area can be fragile and might not support the weight of the desk) and the other end was picked up under the desk top overhang on the cabinet side which is well supported well by the cabinet, to the position where I needed it placed This piece it is heavy. I connected the return piece (the one with the drawers) after assembling it separately, again a deviation from the instructions, and combined it to the the main desk, again without help, After connecting it to the main desk. I put on the desk top on the return as per the instructions. I can't comment on the assembly time, since I took my time thinking through what needed to be done next, without assembly help. This added to overall time it took, longer than the 3 hours assembly time estimated in other reviews. ... show more

  • Received a defective top coating but it was replaced under warranty Received a defective top coating but it was replaced under warranty
The desk feel solid; and so far it has been solid; but the top coating is a joke. They basically do not laminate the top of the desk nor any other surface; they simply add a thin paper layer on the top, that looks like laminate. This has the adverse effect of peeling off and getting damaged. This is my second desk from Bush; and the first did last for almost 5 years, before starting to show issues due to the top coating/paper layer getting damaged or peeling off. I am ok if this happen after 4-5 years; after all the price of this desk is affordable; but it is not really acceptable to see this after just few months. I suspect that my top sections were defective from the get-go. I live in CA, so there are no extreme temperatures, and the desk is in a room where there is no direct sunlight; the heater is centralized from the ceiling so there is nothing affecting the desk. Even the location is exactly the same as the previous desk. Overall it is a good desk; maybe if you need something more durable that will last more than few years; you may want to buy a wood desk; but if you are looking for a great looking desk that may last you few years; then This one is totally doable. EDIT After few more months, the coating is totally coming apart. Mind you, I don't hammer on it or do anything beside writing and using my keyboard and mouse, although the top is just falling apart. Scratches everywhere, bubbles that show that there are air gaps on the coating (which btw is a thin layer of colored paper), and the edge is all scuffed; in areas that I don't even use. I am forced to buy some sort of cover for the desk, to cover the mess. Not sure what can be done for the corners SECOND EDIT: After checking with Bush furniture, they were kind enough to send me a replacement for the top part. They went above and beyond so I have increased the rating to the original 4 stars. I hope the replacement parts won't be defective as the previous ones; but just in case, I purchased a glass top to protect the desk. ... show more

  • Incredibly easy to assemble Incredibly easy to assemble
Color: Modern Walnut
I have bought and built a fair number of furniture over the years (whether it be for myself or others) and I have to say that this is perhaps one of the most satisfying desks o have had the pleasure of building. One of the bigger problems with other desks is that a lot of the time the cuts are poor and the they tend to use particleboard that is of lower quality. This desk seems to have been precisely cut to fit almost dead on. I didn't encounter a single piece that needed additional work to get a fit. Additionally, the particleboard used below the surface is of a higher quality (the density seems to be contributing factor here). This made any parts screwing into the boards go in clean and firm. These things aside the desk does have a few drawbacks. The first is that the backs for the cabinet and drawers are not secured using nails and a hammer but instead have screws with fine threads. Getting these in was so hard that I finally gave up on them and just grabbed some spare nails and hammer them into the guide holes they put on the backs (fantastic thing to have by the way) and it worked like a charm. The second thing that might not be as much of an issue to some is the opening to sit down at is not as encompassing if you sit down on one side of the desk exclusively. However, with a few adjustments to my chair it wasn't an issue. If you are interested in the desk, it is definitely worth getting just make sure you take your time while building it. This is going to take you a fair number of hours to build so make sure you build it right the first time. ... show more

  • Easy to build, seems durable, looks nice. Obviously not a custom-built piece, but it isn't pretending to be, either.
Overall: We have no complaints about this desk. It is about on par or slightly better than IKEA's upper-middle line: particle board with the veneer over it, but it doesn't feel cheap and flaky, nor does it smell of glue. Building this was an easy task for my husband and I, and I was 5 months pregnant at the time (no heavy lifting for me, but that didn't negatively affect the building process). The only time we had some difficulty was getting the glass door hinges adjusted properly for the door to close without rubbing. I think we over complicated that on our own, though, because we took the hinge apart before trying it at the default tightest setting, which ended up being the right one. Also, when attaching the veneered backing, the nails have screw heads. I think this is because it offers a more finished look, but it was super confusing when we couldn't screw them in. Of course, the instructions show using a hammer, but when you pick up a slightly threaded fastener with a screw head, it is natural to assume it is a screw, not a nail. Every single piece in this set is clearly labeled. All of the hardware and fixtures were labeled and present in proper number as well. Any of the labels are easily peeled off if some of them end up being visible. The instructions are very clear and well-labeled. The only time we had any confusion over the instructions was when we were building the drawers and had were supposed to have not reattached the runners to the drawer mechanism already in the cabinet (they were supposed to be attached to the drawers and then slid back on). Not a big deal! We realized our mistake and remedied it within two minutes. If you've ever built IKEA furniture, this is a walk in the park in comparison. Any reasonable adult or adolescent should be able to build this piece with little difficulty, though it is definitely a two-person job at times. Tools needed: We used a cordless drill with the clutch helping us keep at a slow speed, but a screw driver would have worked fine. Regular claw hammer optional: rubber mallet for tacking in the included plastic floor protectors optional: wood glue to secure wooden pegs Building time: I am not exactly sure how long it took, but we accomplished it in an afternoon. I think it was around 4 hours working at a leisurely pace. We unpacked both boxes, grouping like pieces together in our hallway for easy access, put the baggies of various sized screws/pegs/etc in numerical order, and then built on a beach towel to prevent scratching of our wood floors or new desk. Packaging note: This product comes in two (heavy) boxes. The boxes are stapled and glued shut, and then are lined with Styrofoam inside. Small boxes (often housing the bags of hardware) or pieces of styrofoam are used to keep the pieces from sliding around. I was impressed with how well this was packaged! However...at one point in shipping, one of our boxes had been dropped and was delivered in an obviously "exploded" fashion. Fortunately, nothing was missing or damaged, and this is not an Amazon problem. But, I think it is worth noting for both the positive and negative implications: these boxes can survive a beating, but be sure to count and check your pieces right away for damage if you get a damaged box. End result: My husband has his two 23" monitors on one arm of the desk along with his two speakers, keyboard, and mouse; his computer is in the corner (he has a LAN computer with a case shaped like a milk crate...it isn't going to fit in any standard CPU cabinet, so we put the serge protector, wireless router, and modem in the cabinet); and a printer in line with the drawers on the other arm of the desk. It is a tighter fit than we had hoped, but, it is comfortable, and there is some room on the drawer-side arm for a laptop to sit, or some snacks, or just to have some basic elbow room. We haven't had any scratching or damage in the past couple of weeks of use. Will update if anything bad happens. :) ... show more

  • Great, sturdy desk for the price point! Great, sturdy desk for the price point!
Very good, sturdy desk for less than $300. It's all particle board with a (almost certainly) fake veneer finish. If you know how to operate a screw driver, you'll be able to put the desk together. I put it together practically by myself (I had someone hand me the screws and such as well as lift it to where I wanted it in my room because honestly I only lift weights when I carry my groceries from the car to my apartment). I have a gaming PC, two 24 inch monitors, mouse, and full sized keyboard sitting on the glass cabinet portion of the L-shape and still have room for a drink, full sized heasphones, and various wires. The desktop shows no signs of deformation under that weight either. I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 8 that I place in the phone cubby thing. It's a tight fit, but I can keep my phone off the desktop. My only dislikes are that the veneer (the cherry, espresso, or gray) definitely shows dings (I may have dropped my mechanical keyboard on it....... (; A ;)), the drawers appear to sit slightly crooked and unaligned, and the drawer bottoms are really dense cardboard or cardstock as opposed to a piece of wood. Besides that, I love it. I'm also excited that it's part of a complete set. I'll probably end up buying the matching hutch thing and fancy-looking filing cabinet so I can get rid of one of my two dressers and a small bookshelf. Also, I didn't install the back board for the cabinet and shelf (see pictures) because I had already moved it into a position too close the wall to fit my hands, nails, and a hammer between the desk and wall. ... show more

  • Second Time Was a Disappointment Second Time Was a Disappointment
I purchased this same desk, of a different color, two years ago for a home office and I was thrilled with the quality, construction, packaging, ease of assembly and anything else you could like about a desk. Fast forward to last month, when my son needed his own office set up, and he wanted the exact same desk. I gladly ordered the desk for him based on my previous experience with this item. About three-quarters of the way through the assembly, we realized we were missing a part, piece "I". Instead we had two piece "J"s. The I and J pieces are the exact same size, but have completely different hole and cut outs on them. Of course this would be on a Friday evening and I could not contact the company until the following Monday to see about getting the correct piece. Aside from that, it seemed simple enough to fix with my own drill, and so I did. The desk went together fine, and the errand holes from the company's missing piece mistake are hardly noticeable. Nearing completion, I picked up the last section of the desktop, literally the last piece you install before putting together the drawers, and I noticed the desktop corner was damaged. The finish is scratched/worn off from one of the corners. Obviously this doesn't impact the usability of the desk, and I am sure my son will cause much more damage in the future. However, it's disappointing when things that are new are not just right. I suppose it was my fault, for not carefully inspecting each piece immediately when opening the box, but my first experience was so wonderful, I didn't bother. I also suppose I should have waited to contact the company about the missing piece and damaged corner, but this was one part of a room makeover as a birthday gift, and my son and I really wanted to get everything completed in the short time frame we had. Never mind the fact that this desk comes in two large boxes and not something most people would want to try to disassemble and return to the sender. Still, my son loves it, I am ambivalent and only 50/50 with this furniture manufacturer. To be fair, I never did reach out to Bush Furniture, so I cannot speak to their customer service or problem solving abilities. I would recommend this desk, however, before assembly, carefully inspect all pieces and save packing boxes and materials in the event of needing to return. ... show more
