  • This vest is NICE!
Color: Clay/Black Size: XX-Large
I first ordered this Browning Trapper Creek vest in size XL, but returned it because it was too tight in the midsection (more on size below). I'm glad I dug around a bit and found it in 2XL. I'm thrilled with this purchase! Both times I ordered, the color stated in the product description was listed as "Clay". It's a really nice brown color that works well with the black mesh and padded feature on the right breast (RH vest). But I should point out that the seller's photo didn't match the actual color or description - the photo showed it as a lighter tan color. I'm glad I rolled the dice and believed the description, because it's the brown color I received the first time, which is the color I was looking for. (Disclaimer: I'm color deficient but I usually don't have problems with earth tones.) Description also doesn't do this vest justice. Per the description, it has ample rear packets for storing spent cartridges, two large front pockets on each side for boxes of shells, and the elastic sleeves for the two shells on the breast, plus the recoil pad pocket inside. But what wasn't clear to me (bonus!) is the additional outside breast pocket about the size of a cigarette pack that I see using for ear plugs, and a zippered inside pocket on the bottom left. In addition, the quality and the feel of the material is really nice. Most importantly, the 2XL fits well on me. I'm 6'2", 235 lbs. For size comparison, I just purchased a new suit (jacket size 48L), and this 2XL vest fits exactly the same as the jacket did off the rack - which means there's really no extra room in the midsection to accommodate my 48.5" belly (no judgement, please). For me, this fits like a glove. Folks, I don't write reviews very often, and I haven't worn this vest on the range yet. But, based on my initial observations, I like this vest so much I thought it was important to share my thoughts. This appears to be a great vest that I expect will last me for years to come. ... show more

  • My son really liked it
Color: Clay/Black Size: Small
This vest is great. I bought it for my son and he was very pleased with it. It seems like the quality will hold up over time but that remains to be seen. In the meantime, five stars.

  • Great vest and a good value
Color: Sage/Black Size: X-Large
I really like this vest! I am 5'11" and about 230 and this XL vests me nicely, although on the verge of being too big. I wanted it just a little bigger than normal - I typically buy a Large for shirts - so I could wear this with a jacket if needed. The two main pockets have a button on the outer edge that allow for a larger capacity, which is nice. The two secondary (front) pockets could be used for accessories or a variety of loads on the sporting clays course. There is a two-shell loop on the left chest in case you need a bonus shot or have a bad primer during a round. Below that is a pocket for shooting glasses or sunglasses. The waist has an adjustment strap on each side so you can snug it to fit properly. There is also a hidden zipper pocket on the inside for ear protection, club card, etc. The right shoulder is a full-length light pad, so it shouldn't snag when raising your gun. The large back pouch is mesh and accessible from either side, good for water bottles, empties, or an extra layer of clothing. There is a slot on the inside of the right shoulder for Browning's recoil pad. I wasn't going to purchase a recoil pad (sold separately) but then changed my mind and just ordered one. I like the sage/black color because I feel like I could wear it at the clays course or during dove / pigeon hunts. Lastly, there is a double-ended zipper that allows the vest to be opened from either the top or the bottom. This allows you to unzip from the bottom-up when you sit down so your shells don't fall out of the pockets. I'll be interested to see how this holds up after being washed but my early impressions are nothing but positive. ... show more

  • Good Vest Good Vest
Color: Sage/Black Size: 3X-Large
I am a pretty avid rifle and pistol shooter, and I am just starting out shooting trap as well. I needed to get a vest for shooting trap, that was lightweight and would hold a lot of shells. This fit the bill. I was a little unsure on the sizing, and checked the sizing chart on Browning's website. I normally buy shirts in a 3XL because I like things a little baggy. I am 5'6 and 250 lbs. I carry most of the weight in my stomach area. I ordered a 3XL here and it fits pretty well. Most of it fits great, but the stomach area has a strip around the middle with drawstrings. For some reason that strip in the middle seems too small. Tighter than the rest, even with the drawstrings out all the way. Everything else fits great. You would think they would make this area a little bigger than the rest, since you can use the drawstrings to tighten it for a better fit... But it does fit me. I wouldnt want to go bigger. Just be conscious that if you carry weight in your stomach it may be a bit tighter there. But it fits well with a tshirt, and still fits ok even with a heavy hoody. I could still move around freely and shoulder my shotgun with it, just a big more snug. It is very lightweight and breathable which is nice, and it has a lot of pockets for shells. I read a lot of the reviews on here, and contrary to many of them, it does completely unzip, and you do not have to put it on like a shirt. It completely unzips and zips with no problems. I do like the double zipper, since you can unzip a bit from the bottom and move things out of the way when you need a trip to the bathroom while shooting. Overall, I think its a great value. Seems well constructed. I took off one star because of the fit issue, but it I would recommend it to people. I got it prime delivered to my door in one day, you cant beat that.... ... show more

  • Order one size up!
Color: Sage/Black Size: X-Large
The vest appears well made. As other reviews mentioned it does run small. I normally wear a L or XL in virtually everything. But the XL vest was too small while the XXL was perfect. I wanted to be able to wear a light sweatshirt underneath.

  • The Perfect Shooting/Utility Field Vest
Color: Black/Gray Size: Medium
This is my third Browning vest. Yep, I love them. I use this vest in the field for training dogs. It works as advertised. I find them a little on the big side. I normally wear a large size shirt but I order a medium size vest for the summer months as I only wear it over a t-shirt. In the winter I wear an X large vest because it must fit over a heavy field jacket. I finally wore out the zipper on my original Browning vest. The vest lasted five-years with heavy, daily use (field training dogs). The vest is still good but the zipper is toast. This wear is understandable. I also shoot rifle matches and always wear these vests with the optional gel-pad for shoulder/recoil protection. I will add that the gel-pad pocket is designed too low. I have to shim-up the gel-pad about two-inches. Not a big problem at all. ... show more

  • Good value for the price.
Color: Clay/Black Size: Large
This is my second Browning Butler Creek vest. The first one was replaced for cosmetics - it faded and was rather dirty after about 3 summers, but was not worn out. Gotta keep up apperances at the range! I like the recoil pad pocket - and use a Browning recoil pad. The inside zippered pocket is useful. The mesh is cool enough to wear in the summer heat. (Triple digit Texas heat) Fits as expected. A good vest for summer trap, skeet and sporting clays. ... show more

I ordered larger size because worn over a winter coat. I also ordered a shock pad. Great quality and good fit.
