  • 1.0 out of 5 stars Not stable feels like it’s going to snap
Gears made from plastic not at all sturdy enough to prevent a tip over. Not worth your money

I had some difficulty keeping the clamps from rotating on my solo canoe. If I clamped to the side of the canoe the angle was wrong and the adjustments were to course to fix the problem. I had to come up with a different solution by adding a cross board and screwing the clamps to it. Now it seems to work okay. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best for canoes.
Once you use these on your canoe and for some reason operate the canoe without them you will appreciate what they do and how well they do it. Worth every penny and customer service is top notch.

  • 4.0 out of 5 stars Nice canoe stabilizers
We got this for our 17 ft Ram-X canoe as my daughter is starting to ride in the middle but likes to move about. It gives the extra confidence and stability I was looking for, for the times she's shifting weight back and forth and preventing any sort of tipping. First day out, we got 3 compliments for it and people wondering where they could get it as well. There's some things I wish were done differently however. The way it clamps, it tightens a small rubber circle right onto the canoe hull which is typically something like plastic/ fiberglass, thin and very flexible. So all the force keeping the canoe stable is directed right to that area where it clamps. I resolved this a bit using scrap pieces of 12x4 in 3/4 plywood. So now the force is spread over a wider area. The hull still flexes but not nearly as bad. Now I just need to remember to bring the pieces of plywood with me... It'd be nice if there was a way to clamp directly onto the center aluminum cross beam as this is much sturdier and won't flex like the hull. Too bad there wasn't much forward thinking when designing this. If the product was tested on various hull materials, I'm sure this would have been noticed and fixed. What I might eventually do is see about creating an elbow clamp onto the center metal thwart and then attaching this stabilizer clamp onto that. Doing it this way would be much more ridged and not allow the flex movement from the hull. Second thing is - the weak point here is obviously the plastic detachable clamp where the rod elbow attaches to....the red push button piece holding it in is plastic too. I wish they made this all aluminum as well. Time will tell if this part lasts just as long. I also noticed if we paddle hard, the front of the yellow float tends to dip down into the water, thus acting like a brake. It'd be nice if there was some sort of adjustability with this; or if the front and back of the floats had a bit more of an upward curve like you see with other brands. I'm planning on adding a trolling motor; hopefully this won't be an issue. For what you get, I feel like this item is quite over priced. Similar items can be found for $100 less. Those are made for kayaks though; it seems there aren't too many quick change clamps just for canoes which is prob why it's priced so high. Besides those items, I'm happy with it and hope they will last for years to come. ... show more
