I have had multiple iterations of the Bro Shaver. I started with the original 3 blade version, then got the thinner and easier to use 2 blade version. One of them broke but I bought another. I had wished the 2 blade version was built a bit better and was thicker to avoid having it break when stuffed in my luggage for travel. Well, finally they have perfected the Bro Shaver with this version. It's longer, built much heavier duty, and it separates into two pieces making it perfect for travel. Well done guys! I was afraid that it was discontinued because I could not find this anywhere a couple of months ago but it must have just been sold out. It really makes shaving my back a breeze. It uses cheap double edged safety blades that can be bought it packs of 100 for around $10. This one will be tough to beat for anyone needing a product like this.

First... understand that I've been shaving my face with straight razors and double-edge (DE) razors (the kind that this device uses) for quite some time, so I already understand how to used these types of razors. The Bro Shaver uses DE razor blades (there's one pictured in the product photo), and before you lay this thing across your back, you should read up a little on how they work. DE razor blades are extremely sharp, and that's a good thing. If used properly, they will shave body hair very well--and much nicer than the disposable multi-blade cartridges if you know what you are doing. But they do require some skill, and if you use them improperly, you will bleed. Guys... think of it like this. When you cut your dinner meat, you rest a knife blade on top of the meat, and you use a sawing action back and forth. This is what slices through tissue. The same thing happens with a razor blade, except much faster! If you use a "sawing" motion with a razor blade across your skin, you WILL slice your skin. It'll happen quickly, and may not even hurt that much. Did I mention that it happens fast? However, if you follow the directions, and pull the blade in the appropriate direction, with the blade perpendicular to the cutting force, this shaver will work very efficiently. In fact, the manufacturer has a video on YouTube (I got the link in my email when I placed the order) that shows a super furry guy using this on his werewolf back, and he never cuts himself. So yes... it can work, and it can work without blood! Having said that, the first time I used this, as careful as I was, I did slice my shoulder a little. It's a little hard to use a mirror with this device because of the mirror-image... you think you should move it right, but really it's left. Anyway, yea, I got a little slice about 2" long. It bled and I lived to write the review. Man up soldier! It's no big freakin' deal! I used it a second time with no blood--not even a tiny drop. And actually, I kinda like the feel of this thing. It's like using one of those cheesy back-scratcher sticks that you see for sale in tourist junk shops that look like a long skinny arm with bent fingers. Except it's a little stronger of a scratch. I did not use any shaving cream with this--just bare, clean, dry skin, and it gets my back baby's butt smooth. It's much gentler on my skin than the chemical spray crap that essentially melts hair from the root on out. Those sprays probably result in longer times between hair removal, but that stuff is seriously caustic and causes rashes for a lot of people...I can't even stand the smell of it. This seems safer, once you get the technique down. So yea... this thing works as advertised, but it's not idiot proof. You need to learn a little technique, but it's not that difficult. Guys who already shave with DE or straights will quickly figure this out. Guys that shave with disposable cartridges will have a slightly longer learning curve. Guys who shave with an electric razor, well, good luck fellas! :-)

Tried my Bro Shaver for the first time yesterday. I'm still at the hospital, and should be released this afternoon. KIDDING! All in all it performed as promised with a little extra, somewhat unexpected effort. First off, I'm a middle-aged white dude with a fairly smooth back (couple bumps or moles, here or there but mostly clear). My back hair is fairly thin and wispy, evenly distributed across my back, and at the point of this writing is about an inch long. I've had my back waxed once before ... ONCE (GOOD LORD) ... and have been resigned to using my hair clippers since then to periodically remove my aft mane. Despite repeated attempts at often painful contortion, this always requires a family member to help with the last bit. (I rotate through them - I'm not sure if I'm hoping to avoid them all needing therapy, or if maybe it will make them all actually need it. Maybe it's a shared experience they can bond over, or perhaps get a group discount). That's where things sat prior to this purchase for years. The process went pretty well and results were acceptable. Thumb screws were easy to manage. The blades went in easily (came with a bunch - I think 3 boxes of 5 double-edged blades?). The setup was surprisingly simple and functional, if medieval, but not in an off-putting way, necessarily. I don't know if I was expecting something medical-grade or from NASA or what, but I got past the toy-like appearance and assembly and dove in. First few strokes were disappointingly ineffective, but things picked up pretty fast. Multiple swipes of an area yielded good results, with little rows of cut hair piling up at the end of my strokes and on the shaver. I worked my way around from using horizontal strokes from the right side - pulling left to right (until my shoulder felt like it would burst into flames), the right hand from the top pulling upward, then left from the top, then finally left side horizontally. I repeated these motions as I figured out what worked and didn't, how much pressure to apply, etc. In the end I ended up with a very smooth, close shave across my entire back that was slightly more stubble than a traditional face razor, but much better than my clippers. I had 3-4 small cuts in all, mostly from me trying poor shaver positions at bad angles (see below), or an errant zit or mole I didn't know about. My skin got blotchy and freaked out a bit, but that and most of the cuts chilled out after a shower. I'm very satisfied with my results. I'm not sure if I can get another shave out of these blades or not, but will try to next month. Stuff I learned: - I shaved dry, and the hair does not fall to the floor. It seemingly exploded from my back all over the bathroom as I shaved. Thank god for hand vacs. Who knew. - It's not called a shoulder-shaver for a reason. Resist the urge to try and drag 3 inches of blades across your shoulders, neck and clavicle. I took a couple divots (and felt stupid). - Prepare to get a little cold. I learned this from shaving my head - the difference in insulation on your body between stubble and clean-shaven is far more than you think. I didn't think it would have the same effect on my body, but it sure did. In addition to the funky feeling of my back feeling the fabric of my clothes up against it again, I (and it) got super chilly, and I even got the sniffles a little (and put on more layers). I'll definitely keep using it, and am glad I didn't pop for the smaller, more expensive one. I'll update this if needed. If you read this far, God bless you and your horribly bored day! !!!UPDATE 2023!!! I've been using this thing regularly for a couple years, and things only get better. My skin is used to it, so very few cuts and no more rash or irritation. I've learned the optimal angles and pressure. I've only used it dry-shave and have never had any issues. Not sure I'll try it in the shower, but who knows - maybe I'll be feeling crazy some day. I will also say this - if you don't remember how many times you've used your blades, then it's time to burn the 30 cents and swap them. Every time I go ahead and swap them out it's like when I finally get new wiper blades and every time say to myself "MAN! WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS BEFORE! MAGIC!" (yes, I'm easily impressed) - Happy shaving!
