I’ve tried a few at-home IPL devices now, and the thing that matters most to me is whether the routine is easy enough that I’ll actually stick with it. IPL is not one of those “use it once and you’re done forever” things. You have to be consistent, so a device being simple, quick, and not annoying to handle makes a big difference. One important thing I’d mention before buying any IPL device is to make sure your skin tone and hair color are actually suitable for IPL. These usually work best with darker hair against lighter-to-medium skin tones, so very light blonde, red, gray, or white hair may not respond well. This Silk Expert Mini is very straightforward to use. You shave first, place it flat against the skin, and work through the area in sections. The skin tone sensor helps take some of the guesswork out of intensity, which I appreciate because I don’t want to sit there wondering if I’m using too much or too little power depending on the body area. The main difference with this kit, though, is that it feels like a much more complete hair removal setup. Along with the IPL device, it includes a bikini trimmer with multiple attachments, a mini facial hair remover, a Venus razor, and a pouch. That makes it a lot more practical than just buying the IPL unit by itself because you already have the prep and touch-up tools included. Speed is pretty good for a compact IPL device. It’s not going to be quite as fast as some larger full-size units with bigger treatment windows, but it moves along well enough that sessions don’t feel painfully slow. For smaller areas like underarms, face, bikini line, or touch-ups, the size actually works in its favor because it’s easier to position and control. In terms of hair removal, consistency is the whole point. With regular use, I noticed slower regrowth and thinner-looking hair in the areas where IPL usually works well for me. I have tried at least 3 hair removal tools over the years and find most of them to be unreliable and rather cheap. I was most intrigued by this offering from Braun, which I consider a solid brand in offering quality products. While the overall results is a work-in-progress, this kit definitely provides a more complete approach to hair removal than any of the kits I’d previously used. WHAT YOU GET The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device is the workhorse of this kit and it measure 5 1/2” x 3” with a 8” circumference at its widest point. The tool has a large on/off “treatment” button on the top with a power indicator light around the button. The device has a cable that connects to an electric power supply. Also included are two separate hair trimmers, one for the face and one designed for private areas (with 5 different head attachments), a standard razor (and blade), cleaning brush, a small storage pouch for the trimmer with the multiple attachments, and a larger soft storage bag that holds everything. There are 3 instruction manuals for the IPS tool, and each of the trimmers. EASE OF USE The instruction manual is easy to read and very helpful in providing clear and useful information. This product is not suitable for certain skin/hair colors and other specified skin and health conditions. I like that it is stated the device has been through clinical trials that assures the safety and efficacy of the tool and posts the results … I like the transparency. The device is very easy to use, simply plug in and press the button. The light ring around the power button will show blue when starting. The light ring changes colors that dictate how the device will perform simply by identifying skin tone when the light end of the device is pressed on the skin: pink=high intensity (light skin tones), light pink=medium intensity (medium skin tones), white=low intensity (dark skin), and red=skin tones that are not compatible (the light device will not flash). When you get the pink/light pink/white light, keeping the end of the device pressed against the skin will eventually trigger the light effect that is part of the hair removal process. While the light pulse will generate a flash of heat on the skin, but it is a painless process. The level of noise is minimal, there is a slight sound when the light is activated, but the low hum of the device’s fan is the only real sound. I’m using this on a test area on my arm and what impresses me is how quickly you can treat an area. This alone is encouraging as the process of other devices is extremely laborious. It is going to take several weeks to determine the true efficacy, but everything I’ve experienced so far has me excited that this is a major step in the right direction. This is not a cheap product, but the overall quality of the components and the complete nature of this kit has me confident that this is a thoughtfully designed and comprehensive hair removal toolkit. The first serious hair-removal kit I’ve used.

I purchased this IPL hair removal device for my wife, and I’ve been genuinely impressed with both the design and overall quality. Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 IPL feels very well made, with a sleek appearance and an ergonomic shape that makes it comfortable to hold during use. One feature that really stood out to us is the built-in skin tone sensor, which automatically adjusts the intensity for safer treatments depending on skin tone. That added a lot of confidence when starting out. It’s also worth noting that, like most IPL devices, it’s not recommended for very dark skin tones or for very light hair colors such as red, gray, white, or pale blonde. My wife wasn’t sure what to expect initially, but she was pleasantly surprised that the treatments were completely comfortable. She described the sensation as a mild warmth whenever the light flashes—nothing painful or irritating. Since she’s still early into the treatment schedule, it’s too soon to fully judge long-term hair reduction results, but the experience so far has been very positive. Another thing I appreciated is how complete the package is. The instructions recommend shaving and cleaning the treatment area beforehand, and the kit includes pretty much everything needed for that process. It comes with a Venus razor, a compact battery-powered trimmer with interchangeable heads for smaller areas, and even a mini facial hair remover intended for women’s facial hair. There’s also a soft travel/storage pouch that keeps everything organized. One thing to know is that the unit itself is corded rather than rechargeable, so it does need to stay plugged in while in use. Using it seems very straightforward. For larger areas like legs, you can hold the button down and glide the device along the skin while it flashes continuously. For smaller or more precise areas, you simply press once for each section being treated. My wife found the controls intuitive and easy to learn. I’ve owned several premium Braun grooming products over the years, and this feels consistent with the brand’s usual level of engineering and build quality. Compared to the cost and inconvenience of repeated med spa appointments, this seems like a much more practical and affordable option—especially since touch-ups can be done anytime at home without additional appointments or fees.

You always get a bang for your buck with braun, no other hair removal brand does it like them. Seriously. I own maybe 4 hair removal devices by then and they’re all exceptional. The ipl really works but you have to give it time and patience. It’s always easy to use, and if anything the instructions over complicate it because it’s really as easy as messing with the buttons after lugging it in. You get so much out of this travel machine, other than it being compact you get all the bells and whistles, the cleaning tools, extra add ins that feel like a thank you for purchasing with them. The pain is non existent, especially in comparison to older ipl machines with strong bulbs that needed replacing, and especially in comparison to waxing, plucking or epilating. This thing is a dream and a mighty little machine

I ordered this for my wife, and I am so impressed with the quality of this IPL permanent hair remover product. It is ergonomically designed for comfort when holding and is very sleek looking. It will work with most skin tones (except very dark skin) and has a skin tone sensor built in so that it automatically adjusts to deliver a safe treatment. Genius! Also, be aware that they do not recommend that it be used on people with pale blond, white/grey or red hair as it is less effective. My wife wasn't sure what to expect when she started using but was happy to report that it produced no discomfort whatsoever. She described a warming sensation on the skin while the laser light is flashing. Since she has just started using it, we can not yet report on how well it works to remove hair but we'll update this review later when it has been used for the recommended length of time. I am also very impressed with how complete this kit is. The directions say to shave and clean the area to be treated with the IPL prior to use, and the kit includes everything you need to do that. It has a Venus brand razor for shaving legs, back, etc. It also has a small battery-operated bikini area trimmer with 3 different sized exchangeable heads as well as a battery operated mini facial hair remover for a woman's facial hair ( not intended to be used for men's facial hair) all included in the kit. The kit also includes a soft pouch to store everything in for safe storage or travel. It is not a rechargeable unit and needs to be plugged into an outlet to use. All cords are included. To treat a large area such as the legs, you place the IPL laser light window of the unit against the skin and hold down the large button while moving it slowly along the skin. The laser light will flash while it is in contact with the skin. To do smaller areas such as a bikini line, you place the window of the unit against the skin and press the button allowing it to flash once. You then lift the unit and place it on the next spot to be treated and repeat. My wife found it very easy to use. I have owned top of the line men's Braun shavers for the past 15 or 20 years so I am familiar with how well engineered their producgts are. This product is no different. Compared to the cost of having this done at a med spa, this is definitely more affordable and convenient as you can use it to touch up at any time for no additional cost.
