I purchased this IPL hair removal device for my wife, and I’ve been genuinely impressed with both the design and overall quality. Braun Silk-expert Pro 5 IPL feels very well made, with a sleek appearance and an ergonomic shape that makes it comfortable to hold during use. One feature that really stood out to us is the built-in skin tone sensor, which automatically adjusts the intensity for safer treatments depending on skin tone. That added a lot of confidence when starting out. It’s also worth noting that, like most IPL devices, it’s not recommended for very dark skin tones or for very light hair colors such as red, gray, white, or pale blonde. My wife wasn’t sure what to expect initially, but she was pleasantly surprised that the treatments were completely comfortable. She described the sensation as a mild warmth whenever the light flashes—nothing painful or irritating. Since she’s still early into the treatment schedule, it’s too soon to fully judge long-term hair reduction results, but the experience so far has been very positive. Another thing I appreciated is how complete the package is. The instructions recommend shaving and cleaning the treatment area beforehand, and the kit includes pretty much everything needed for that process. It comes with a Venus razor, a compact battery-powered trimmer with interchangeable heads for smaller areas, and even a mini facial hair remover intended for women’s facial hair. I have tried at least 3 hair removal tools over the years and find most of them to be unreliable and rather cheap. I was most intrigued by this offering from Braun, which I consider a solid brand in offering quality products. While the overall results is a work-in-progress, this kit definitely provides a more complete approach to hair removal than any of the kits I’d previously used. WHAT YOU GET The Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device is the workhorse of this kit and it measure 5 1/2” x 3” with a 8” circumference at its widest point. The tool has a large on/off “treatment” button on the top with a power indicator light around the button. The device has a cable that connects to an electric power supply. Also included are two separate hair trimmers, one for the face and one designed for private areas (with 5 different head attachments), a standard razor (and blade), cleaning brush, a small storage pouch for the trimmer with the multiple attachments, and a larger soft storage bag that holds everything. There are 3 instruction manuals for the IPS tool, and each of the trimmers. EASE OF USE The instruction manual is easy to read and very helpful in providing clear and useful information. This product is not suitable for certain skin/hair colors and other specified skin and health conditions. I like that it is stated the device has been through clinical trials that assures the safety and efficacy of the tool and posts the results … I like the transparency. The device is very easy to use, simply plug in and press the button. The light ring around the power button will show blue when starting. The light ring changes colors that dictate how the device will perform simply by identifying skin tone when the light end of the device is pressed on the skin: pink=high intensity (light skin tones), light pink=medium intensity (medium skin tones), white=low intensity (dark skin), and red=skin tones that are not compatible (the light device will not flash). When you get the pink/light pink/white light, keeping the end of the device pressed against the skin will eventually trigger the light effect that is part of the hair removal process. While the light pulse will generate a flash of heat on the skin, but it is a painless process. The level of noise is minimal, there is a slight sound when the light is activated, but the low hum of the device’s fan is the only real sound. I’m using this on a test area on my arm and what impresses me is how quickly you can treat an area. This alone is encouraging as the process of other devices is extremely laborious. It is going to take several weeks to determine the true efficacy, but everything I’ve experienced so far has me excited that this is a major step in the right direction. This is not a cheap product, but the overall quality of the components and the complete nature of this kit has me confident that this is a thoughtfully designed and comprehensive hair removal toolkit. The first serious hair-removal kit I’ve used.

I ordered this for my wife, and I am so impressed with the quality of this IPL permanent hair remover product. It is ergonomically designed for comfort when holding and is very sleek looking. It will work with most skin tones (except very dark skin) and has a skin tone sensor built in so that it automatically adjusts to deliver a safe treatment. Genius! Also, be aware that they do not recommend that it be used on people with pale blond, white/grey or red hair as it is less effective. My wife wasn't sure what to expect when she started using but was happy to report that it produced no discomfort whatsoever. She described a warming sensation on the skin while the laser light is flashing. Since she has just started using it, we can not yet report on how well it works to remove hair but we'll update this review later when it has been used for the recommended length of time. I am also very impressed with how complete this kit is. The directions say to shave and clean the area to be treated with the IPL prior to use, and the kit includes everything you need to do that. It has a Venus brand razor for shaving legs, back, etc. It also has a small battery-operated bikini area trimmer with 3 different sized exchangeable heads as well as a battery operated mini facial hair remover for a woman's facial hair ( not intended to be used for men's facial hair) all included in the kit. The kit also includes a soft pouch to store everything in for safe storage or travel. It is not a rechargeable unit and needs to be plugged into an outlet to use. All cords are included. To treat a large area such as the legs, you place the IPL laser light window of the unit against the skin and hold down the large button while moving it slowly along the skin. The laser light will flash while it is in contact with the skin. To do smaller areas such as a bikini line, you place the window of the unit against the skin and press the button allowing it to flash once. You then lift the unit and place it on the next spot to be treated and repeat. My wife found it very easy to use. I have owned top of the line men's Braun shavers for the past 15 or 20 years so I am familiar with how well engineered their producgts are. This product is no different. Compared to the cost of having this done at a med spa, this is definitely more affordable and convenient as you can use it to touch up at any time for no additional cost.

I started using this on my underarms and lower legs. Shaving every day got tedious, and I would even end up feeling the stubble the next day. The first session was while I watched TV, and it honestly wasn't too hard to do. The device is slightly bigger than my palm. Some similar products I used in the past became hard to hold after use, but this one is pretty fun and easy to use. I was surprised by how fast the duration was. There was a kind of pain to it, but you get used to it since the snaps of some of the flashes would cause some heat to sensitive skin, but some other parts of my body were completely fine and pain free. I also discovered that the probably most organized way to get the job done was to go little section by little section instead of just shooting random snaps of the device. There is a skin sensor built into the device, and it was great. I didn't want something with a bunch of buttons and modes. You will want to sit next to the outlet since the device runs using a wire, so you will get a restricted range of motion. I'm not expecting to change a lot since I'm early on in the use of the device, so hair isn't disappearing overnight. I've also noticed that underarms and a couple of other areas have slower regrowth. I'm glad it's not a time consuming task. I assumed this was going to be a routine that I'd hate and keep pushing off, but it's super easy to do.
