  • Amazing pedal for extending the reach of guitarists
Not really for gigs but has great capabilities. Many voices and filtering. Roland engine is versatile but I often find I can’t reproduce sounds even when settings are set the same or recalled from memory. I haven’t tried any software yet or firmware updates. I love the variety afforded by this device however. I am anxious to try the midi out. ... show more

  • Amazing pedal!
The range of things this thing can do is incredible. I bought it as a way to add texture to my worship bands sound, as we don’t have a synth player, and it is holding up really well. This will let you do everything from making bass lines to creating atmosphere to playing leads. The cost of this pedal is pretty high for what it is. Sure it’s an amazing piece of technology and can do some amazing things, but $316.00 plus the cost of a power supply is a pretty steep price. For that money the power adapter should be included. I’ve bought Electroharmonix pedals for less and they ship with a power supply. Overall though, this pedal is the most fun I’ve had on guitar in a long time and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to use it to its full potential. ... show more

  • I finally got that "cats in a bag" tone I've been hearing in my head
This thing give me that "transformers cartoon soundtrack" vibe with out having to learn or buy a keyboard. Weeks of fun so far and I'm still playing with the presets. Loads of diffend sounds to get lost in. Wow

  • !!HOLD!! or not to HOLD
if you are expecting the sy-200 to work like the sy-1, sy-300 and gr-55(I have all three) The hold function does not work the same. on sy 1 300 and g55 when you press hold(on the external footswitch) you just press hold again to hold the next note(chord) but on the sy-200 when you press hold for the second note it does not, I stops the hold and you have to click a second time to hold the next note. instead of "press hold, press hold, etc." its "press hold, press stop, press hold, press stop, etc." I use my sy-1 in live shows making the sy-200 a return for refund ... show more

  • Reworked product that did not function
I have been contemplating buying this product for a while. Imagine my disappointment when I was unable to power this unit up. It was a refurbed unit almost at full price. I returned within 1 hour of receipt. Decided to purchase a new one this time around.

  • Lots of customizability, be prepared for a lot of tweaking
I've had an Electro Harmonix Synth9 for the past year now, and I've always wanted something with just a bit more customizability and range. I tried out the SY-1 at a Guitar Center and liked all that it had, but it took a lot of fine tuning to get what I wanted. That's all fine if you just need one specific tone, but if you want to have multiple tones then you'll have to constantly adjust your knobs. With the Synth9, it's very plug-and-play and simple to get tones out of it, so it's much better in a live setting if you want variety. The SY-200 is basically the SY-1 but with customizable presets (as well as other new features) and an easy way to cycle through them. I spent one afternoon with the pedal and instantly decided I was going to sell the Synth9. There's just so much the pedal can do, and the tracking is incredibly better. Of course, this comes at the cost of an extra $100. If you're trying to decide between the Boss SY series or the Synth9, here's my take: SY-200 if you can afford it, always. Otherwise, Synth9 if you're looking for an easy plug-and-play pedal to use live (or if you just don't want to take tons of time to fiddle with settings). And then last, SY-1 if you are just needing a single tone or are okay with taking a lot of time to mess with the tone every time you need to switch around. Synth9 and the SY-1 have similar price points, so I'd choose the Synth9 for it's practicality. ... show more
