  • Love the book
Love the book. I love how the women were able to solve the crime. Can't wait for the next book.

  • A good book
Saving Grace is by Pamela Fagan Hutchins. It is a quick romance to read and has a different plot than other romances. There is a sequel to this book. Katie Connell was a good lawyer and did a great job for her office. However, lately she had been a little distracted. She lost her parents in a car accident in St. Marcos while they were on their Caribbean vacation. Katie has had a hard time accepting their deaths. She has also been drinking too much which was causing concern from her brother Collin. After all, their father was a recovering alcoholic. However, she just finished up a great case for her law office and was being congratulated for it. She willing gave her assistant and friend Emily and her co-worker Nick their credit. Nick was one of the investigators the company used. Katie had a crush on him and thought he had one on her. OF course, it would not be a good idea to have an office romance but it was good to have one you could dream about. Collin finally speaks with Katie along with Emily about her alcohol problem and her drive to be number one. He though she needed to go somewhere and dry out. She compromised and said she would look into her parents deaths and come to come kind of closure. She sets out for St. Marcos. There she meets Ava, a native singer, who helps her in her quest and also gives her a room to sleep in. The first thing Katie does is antagonize one of the chief detectives and one of the only people who could help her. Now she had to worry about his interfering in her plans. While a private investigator is looking into the death of her father, Katie does the tourist thing and goes for a hike into the rainforest. Here they reached an abandoned house and she falls in love with it and makes an offer for it. The offer is not accepted so she keeps looking. When she goes home, she gets a case she definitely did not want. She was to act as lawyer to a man being charged with rape? She does not like the man at all and although she tries, his guilt weighs on her. During the trial, she gets drunk which is totally unlike her and when she calls a witness, the court looses it. The witness said she had seen the subject killing this lady. Katie gets help from Ava, a singer she meets in a bar. While she is waiting word about her offer, she goes to the house and works on it a little. Then she gets her rotten case. She ends up removing herself in person when the court will not allow her to leave temporarily. She learns the offer on Annalise (the house) did not go through and she was being offered the deal again. Now Katie becomes obsessive over the tree, her relationship to the others, and her relationship with her mother. What will happen to Katie and Collin, Ava, and now the little girl who he believes is the ancestor she has been looking for? ... show more

  • Slow, Extraneous Details, In Depth Characters
Not much of a mystery but more the story of a female lawyer who moves to the Caribbean to restart her life. The writing is good and the mistakes are few. The details abound. The characters are very real. You can get to know them as a friend or not. I skipped over some of the unneeded descriptions looking for the mystery. It was just not my kind of book. ... show more

  • It was all I hoped it would be.
I love the cover and the location, the Virgin Islands, for Pamela Fagan Hutchins’ Saving Grace. It was all I hoped it would be. I was relating to Katie quickly, wrapping her napkin neatly around her beer, playing pool and winning, but that’s where the similarities ended. I don’t drink and text and neither should she. I find it terrible that a lawyer would act like she did, especially in a room with all her coworkers. She acts like an obsessively love struck teenager. The beginning is abrupt and I was thrown right into the story and I don’t much like Katie right now. But, let’s see if there is a reason for her being so out of control and sophomoric. The name dropping got a bit annoying…Dennis the Menace, Bon Jovi, Direct TV, iPhone, Ihop, Hooters, Vaio, Dell, Blackberry…you get the drift. An intervention sent her to St Marcos in her quest to solve the mystery of her parents death and get her act together. Enter Ava, who in her way introduced Katie to Annalise, Hebrew for Grace, an abandoned mansion that spoke to Katie. Now Pamela has my attention! Who…or what… is really doing the talking? Katie loved walking on the beach and it cleared her mind. Now, we’re getting together. Oh man, guess it had to happen, but I’m disappointed how her trip ended. I have a feeling that will change. It was just getting good for me, but I feel there is a lot more to come. When the news came over the phone after one of the worst days of her life, I got super excited too. My heart beat faster, a smile came to my face, and I began racing through the pages. Oh yeah, now we’re cooking with Caribbean heat. She got a pick up with a lift kit and cruised off to her new life. I want to be there!! I love to bury my feet in the sand and I have enjoyed a PainKiller or two. I’m afraid for her and her friends. In the islands anything can happen. The suspense is mounting, the tension building. I can feel it. I see it coming. Does she? I didn’t like Katie’s whining and sniveling for the longest time, but her growth and development, her willingness to see herself as she really was and make changes, made me like her more and more. Now…after thinking I wasn’t going to like this so much…I find myself hating for it to end and wanting more. ... show more
