    • I have mixed feelings about this book.
The title is accurate in that his book is for beginners. The information it gives is clear. I was hoping that the discussion of things like repotting, root pruning, and shaping would go into more detail about how to do it. I could not confidently do any of those based only on what this book says. I found online videos to be more helpful. The book briefly describes 8 bonsai styles. The 10 accompanying pictures are attractive, but don't seem to correlate with the described styles. It would be more helpful to have labeled pictures accompanying each style The author expressed his hope that the reader will "feel equipped and inspired" (109). I was impressed with the quality of this book; it has beautiful pictures. The information provided is very interesting, especially if you want to delve into the deep roots of what the true meaning of a bonsai is.
