I bought this to use as what I’d call my base coat to my first Bob Ross style painting (see attached) and found it to be essential to creating the background blend of colors and working with the brushes used by Bob Ross (see my reviews) in the wet on wet technique. The liquid white helps to blend the sky colors well for a great effect and if put on very sparingly will dry much faster than I expected. I used a very thin coat which was really just enough to wet the canvas (not a white wash lol), and actually thought I should have used a bit more to keep it wet longer. This is obviously a sill set that like others I will have to develop better over time. I’ve seen shows using the liquid black and liquid clear as well which provide their own special effects which I will also try in due time. ... show more

I did have to dip my brush into some Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer each time, before washing it with soapy water with a splash of vegetable oil. The extra step was hardly an inconvenience for the advantage to be able to blend so easily.

    • Obvious formula change
It's been about 3 years since I bought this product and I gotta say there's a noticeable change in the formula. The previous formula was thicker and easier to use. This formula serperates easier so you have to throughly mix it before each use, and even then it's so runny and thin. I can't seem to find the right balance when applying it to the canvas, too much and it clumps up under your paint, too little and it just doesn't work. And it has a strong linseed oil smell. If this is your first time buying liquid white, I'd say go ahead and give it a try. If you've used the previous formula maybe spend your money on a different product or make your own as I found this to be extremely disappointing. ... show more

Great Product. Apply a very thin coat and you are good to go. When I got the whole canvas covered, I just use a fresh dry brush and go over it one more time. You should be able to see the pits of your fingerprints if you put a finger on the canvas. At first, I think I put too much on. You can feel the slight drag of your brush when it is spread thinly. Which is where you want it. Liquid white is ready to go out of the tub. I use 18x24in canvas, this tub should last 25-30 paintings at least. If you haven't tried a Bob Ross painting, you should, you can paint too! ... show more
