I thoroughly enjoyed this series, "the BoB" is just delightful! I have never had any formal art lessons and wanted to learn some basic techniques so I ordered the series. Bob Ross's kind, persistant teaching method (and the rewind function) walked me through the basics in a very clear and enjoyable manner. At the end of the day I had a lovely painting to encourage more efforts. It was great! I would highly recommend this series. My sister, Mom and I did two paintings together. We had a blast and hung our paintings on the wall when all was done. Since then I have purchased more Bob Ross DVDs as gifts. So far everyone loves him and there are several more fledgling painters enjoying their new passion! Thanks, Bob! ... show more

    • 9 and a half hours of Bob Ross...
Nine one hour episodes, created as instructional painting guides, with a half-hour episode from the Joy of Painting series. Wonderfully detailed and complete, its price tag may seem a tad high. But please note educational material is always going to cost twice or more than material for entertainment. For the price I could have gotten three brand new 25 episode anime sets. Or four used ones. Or six short, semi-new, 13 episode, anime sets. Or 10 happy meals. And the price will likely only go up. But it is a must for those of you who wish to learn how to paint or are fans of the great, late Bob Ross. Each episode is a self-contained class, in which he explains what materials are needed, how to set up your work space, tools, use of the brushes and how to set up the canvas. THEN he gets into color, light, shape, background, and so-on. He is a wonderful teacher as long as his calm voice does not put you to sleep. A star was removed only for the price which, as I said, is pretty high. Maybe a tad too high. ... show more

Very helpful to me, after a hiatus of years from painting. I learned tricks from Bob Ross, that would work with other mediums, besides oils. I like that he goes slow enough for one to absorb what he's showing you. The instructional CDs are well worth the cost, like attending classes, but less costly. Well worth the money. ... show more

    • Essential mind lessons as well as art ones!
If you're looking at this, you'll know what to expect, and who the wonderful, late Bob Ross is. A few utube views will give you a bit more of a taste if not. These videos are more than painting exercises, they are mindset exercises, and truly inspiring. It covers plenty of extended versions of what used to be on TV, and what you can see online. There's just something about Bob, that just puts you in a good mood after watching his videos. Watching these will inspire, build confidence and uplift like a form of meditation.
