This book explores the fundamentals and applications of Blockchain technology. Readers will learn about the decentralized peer-to-peer network, distributed ledger, and the trust model that defines Blockchain technology. They will also be introduced to the basic components of Blockchain (transaction, block, block header, and the chain), its operations (hashing, verification, validation, and consensus model), underlying algorithms, and essentials of trust (hard fork and soft fork). Private and public Blockchain networks similar to Bitcoin and Ethereum will be introduced, as will concepts of Smart Contracts, Proof of Work and Proof of Stack, and cryptocurrency including Facebook’s Libra will be elucidated. Also, the book will address the relationship between Blockchain technology, Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Digital Transformation and Quantum Computing.Readers will understand the inner workings and applications of this disruptive technology and its potential impact on all aspects of the business world and society. • Worst textbook that I ever used during a 48-year Silicon Valley engineering career
I bought this book because it was "required" for a course in blockchain technology in the Stanford Continuing Studies program. The book's author, Ahmed Banafa, was teaching the course. My impression of Prof. Banafa during the course was that he didn't really understand the technology. I asked him at one point, "What is a Bitcoin?" All that he could come up with was "You have to get four zeros." This stopped me dead. What was he talking about? A friend of mine explained that a bitcoin is the solution of a cryptography puzzle. You have to find an input file to a complex algorithm (a "hash" algorithm) that produces an output that starts with zeros. There isn't a systematic way to find it. Your computer just has to keep guessing. So why didn't Banafa say this? I think that it was because he didn't really understand it. The textbook is bizarre. The text in some paragraphs isn't even in complete, grammatical sentences. They read as though someone had a Powerpoint slide and substituted ". " for all of the carriage returns. ... show more
