If properly cut to fit and if velcro is installed so material is nice and taut, it will block nearly 100% of light - a true black-out product. I can now go into my bedroom on the brightest day in the summer, and its a dark cave with this product on my windows. You can remove the material because it uses velcro tabs, so you can open the window if you need to. But I wouldn't recommend it if you want to take it down every day and put it back up. I imagine the glue might eventually wear out. I've had mine up for a few months with no problems. Only removed it twice to open the window to let some fresh air in. I live in New England where its light out before 5am in the summer. I've tried expensive black-out curtains, but they still let a little light in around the edges, and it would wake me up. I needed something that would totally black-out my two bedroom windows. This did it for me. Sleep is so much better with this material on my windows. Some people have complained that the material looks/feel cheap, but at $15, what do you expect? I didn't expect it to be aesthetically beautiful. It's not. And that ok because it does what I need it to do. It blocks the light really well, and that was my main reason for purchase. I imagine most people, like me, have curtains or blinds that you can close over it. Problem solved. It's only been a few months, so I'll have to see how the glue/velcro holds up over time. But at $15 each, I can afford to replace them every year if I have to. It's worth it, for better sleep.

Works like a dream! And believe me I am getting more dreams with this blackout curtain fabric! I love how instantly my room went to a darker and cooler feeling. It’s blocking the uv rays that would heat up my room like crazy this summer! And it took me minutes too! It’s so easy to install! And the double sided sticky Velcro really holds it perfectly!! The material had an industry smell to it, but I left it outside overnight and the air completely took that away! And I’m so glad! I know smells can give some people headaches, but once I had aired it out and then installed it, there wasn’t any smell at all!! So I think it’s a win-win getting a great product for so cheap and believe me, my dreams are so much better for it! Finally I can really sleep deeply even with all the Summer light that used to come in too early and staying too late.

This product markedly reduced the amount of light coming into the room. They didn't give any helpful tips on applying the curtain to the window, but my husband and I muddled through and got it up. I would say it's definitely a 2-person job because we left our drapes up while we applied the curtain to the window. So my husband held one drape back and I put my side of the drape behind my back to keep it out of the way as I stood on the ladder to apply the curtain. We put the sticky side of the pads on the window frame and then we removed the plastic from the other side, centered the curtain, and applied it. In retrospect, maybe it would have been easier to take the drapes down to have free access to apply the blackout curtain. One side is black and the other side is silver. We put the silver side facing outside and the black side facing into the bedroom. I recommend this as a reasonably priced way to block light into a bedroom.

It does block the light very well. But if you're looking for something that is portable and looks nice and tidy this isn't it. First of all, I read the wrinkles from being folded could be ironed out. I tried and tried and the wrinkles stayed put. As for portability, when you try to separate the Velcro, it pulls the sticky part off of the glass. I gave them 4 stars because it was easy to install and blocked the light.

I bought these as a temporary treatment while my stepson lives with us. It completely blacks out the sun - he sleeps during the day. It was easy to install - place the tabs, hang the curtain and cut to size. We have roman blinds so I actually cut the length a bit longer and stuck it to the bottom of the blackout curtain to the blinds and only stuck the black out curtain to the top of the window and not the sides so when he opens the roman blind the black out opens with it and he can get some sun. That way doesn't work perfectly but it's great for a temporary situation. It's worth the price and I'm thinking about purchasing it for more windows.

The adhesive didn’t stick very well. After only a few hours it fell from the skylight. Maybe the heat from the sun? Either way I wish the adhesive was stronger. Maybe it would work for regular windows but it didn’t for a skylight
