Description

THE BUTLER FROM HELL! Ciel Phantomhive is the most powerful boy in all of England, but he bears the scars of unspeakable suffering. Forced to watch as his beloved parents were brutally murdered, Ciel was subsequently abducted and violently tortured. Desperate to end his suffering, the boy traded his own soul for a chance at vengeance, casting his lot with the one person on whom he could depend: Sebastian, a demon Butler summoned from the very pits of hell. Together, they'll prowl the darkest alleys of London on a mission to snuff out those who would do evil. They're a rare sight, these two: the Butler who dismembers with dazzling cutlery and the Young Master who carries the devil's marking. Rest assured that wherever they may be headed, it'll be one hell of a ride.

  • Amazing Action Packed With a Gripping Plot Anime
Black Butler, Season 1 This set includes 3 DVD and 2 Blu Ray discs. Playback, color, clarity, and sound are outstanding. The animation, scenes, and artwork are amazingly detailed and realistic, You won't be disappointed. and it all begins as follows Ciel Phantomhive is the son of lord Victor Phantomhive who's parents are brutally murdered, and then suffers a horrible experience of his own. Wanting revenge he summons and makes a pact with demon Sebastian the deal is made and and both sides agree, Ciel is marked and bears Sebastian's mark until the bargain has been fulfilled. Sabastian is very charismatic, intelligent, classy, well spoken, and handsome he works as a servant for Ciel. This series is a mix of comedy, drama, murder, and mystery, with a dash of romance thrown in every once in a while it has plenty of action along with some great plot twists One great example of the action content is seen in one episode where Ciel is kidnapped and held for ransome by a large group of mafia men. A letter is sent to Sabastian Mey Rin swiftly brings it to Sabastian who then sets out to rescue the young lord. inside the vast estate is when you get to see Sebastian's assassin like abilities when he uses the most surprising things as weapons against armed men with a skill that would make a ninja and samurai proud Sebastian goes into the back room where Ciel being held by the mob boss. Ciel remains calm and seemingly uncaring while waiting to be rescued by Sebastian. The fool boss is arrogant and overly cocky until he gets a surprise he never expected and gasps in horror then tries to bribe Sebastian, in a humorous moment the demon wears his angelic like smile and replies his trademark line "I am simply one hell of a butler," scaring the crap out of the crime lord even more Cast of characters 1 Ciel Phantomhive.........Child lord wanting revenge 2 Sebastian Michaelis......Demon and butler 3 Tanaka....................Another loyal servant a kind older man who also served Ciels parents 4 Mey Rin....................A gorgeous former assassin with uncanny eyesight who was sent to kill a man and hesitated. Sebastian sneaks up on her they begin talking and he offers her a job in Ciels home 5 Finny.......................A young man with abnormal strength who was kept and experimented on by scientists. Grell is also hilarious addind a lot of humor to the series 8 Undertaker..................A lovable guy with long white hair who is the towns under taker 9 Madam Red.................Ciel's aunt and his mothers sister. She is a doctor and is very chrasmatic, fun loving, mysterious and harbors really dark secrets of her own. It is later revealed that she and Grell have a very strange connection 10 William T Spears..........Member of the reapers society and Grell's boss who Grell annoys to no end, he and Sebastian meet during a fight between Sebastian and Grell. the interation between William and Grell is hilarious ... show more

  • A review for grownups
The first season of Black Butler manages an astonishing feat: It constantly skates very close to cliché, yet achieves profound emotional impact. It's a hodgepodge of well-known myths and historic events. A vampire character, here the demon butler Sebastian, with a very close relationship to his prey. The almost absurdly honorable, tradition-bound aristocrat, Cecil Phantomhive (also the prey). A comic-hero scenario where Cecil battles a series of bad guys, mostly by commanding Sebastian, who does the flashy work. Cecil wants to avenge himself on evil and ultimately on whoever murdered his parents, at which point Sebastian, currently his devoted servant, will get to devour his soul under the terms of their contract. A Chinese mob boss/opium den owner whose fragile-looking girlfriend is a martial arts expert. The Grim Reaper--actually several. The Hound of the Baskervilles. Jack the Ripper. Queen Victoria. The Great Exhibition. The goddess Kali. An angel. Master-servant loyalty that I suspect stems more from the Japanese than the Anglo tradition. Broken up by cheesy comic routines carried out by Cecil's four clueless servants/bodyguards--cooking with dynamite and the like. The last seem intended for a younger audience and I was thankful there were no more. I also heard Sebastian say he was "simply one hell of a butler" a few too many times. These characters are varied from the usual in some respects. Cecil is only 12 when the series starts. He can't even tie his own shoelaces, but he is intelligent, brave, honest, vulnerable, yet unflinching--in fact ruthless. His relationship with Sebastian is very complicated, involving homoerotic, psychologically abusive, and parent-child elements, along with, possibly, deep affection on both sides. Viewers are kept guessing about not only what Sebastian and Cecil really feel right now, but about how the series will end. Somewhat less importantly, well-known events and legends are changed about. For example, the Great Exhibition was in the 1850s, not the 1880s as here. The Hound of the Baskervilles was not a werewolf. Grell, one of the Grim Reapers, is flamboyantly infatuated with Sebastian. The angel doesn't make siding with Heaven look any better than siding with Hell (and Ciel is pressured to make that choice). The dialog, at least as translated, is rather pedestrian. It's the visual cues that really add depth. Take Cecil's family ring (a piece of the Hope Diamond), which is repeatedly broken, lost, stolen, duplicated, only to be replaced with well, I see it as a symbolic wedding ring. Really, it's Sebastian and Cecil you care about. And the series does come to a conclusion you can't anticipate, but which seems absolutely right and inevitable. So then what? Apparently for financial reasons, the producers issued a sequel: Season 2. Followed by Seasons 3 and 4, still available only in Japanese. I quit watching Season 2 early on and resolved not to watch any more seasons. Nor do I plan to read the manga, which I gather is just an endless series of battles against bad guys. Season 1 not only stands by itself, carrying on the story merely spoils it. ... show more

  • The Darker side of Anime
Where Anime is concerned, much of the market is flooded with combat style stories like Noratu, Fate-Stay Night, Ikki Tousan...Fan service based Harem/Icche like High School DxD, Sekirie, and Heaven's Lost Property, or Sci-Fi based like Knights of Sidonia, Ghost in the Shell, and Cowboy Bebop.... Not that these examples are bad Anime, in fact quite the opposite. But, Black Butler....This one stands alone..... The dark and twisted story of a 12 year old boy, Ciel Phantomhive, making a pact with a demon for the cost of his soul is, in and of itself disturbingly intriguing. That this demon, Sebastian, agrees in return to serve as Butler to young Master Phantomhive and help Ciel find and punish the person or persons responsible for the death of his parents is "Simply one Hell" of a concept. As the Queen's Guard Dog, Ciel and Sebastian investigate criminal activity for the Crown, while continuing their search for the murderers of Ceil's parents. While many may find this Anime not to there liking, I found the story to be interesting, captivating, and tragic. The thought that a 12 year old boy could be so consumed by his hatred and revenge that nothing, not even an eternity of being devoured by his "Contract" would phase him. If the dark side of human nature is what you are looking for, and happy endings are not your cup of tea...... This IS the Anime for you.... ... show more
