In years gone by, the A/V testing labs made it clear that the 2 best security suites were those produced by Bitdefender and Kaspersky. This was borne out by experienced geeks (like myself) who had used both solutions for several years. The result was fierce competition between the two, resulting in steep discounts on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. A good example of this was when I was able to purchase a 5-user / 1-year license for Bitdefender Total Security on Amazon for $16 last year. Now that Kaspersky is illegal in this country (and for good reason, IMHO), Bitdefender has no competition, and therefore no reason to offer the kinds of discounts it has in the past. I find this situation deplorable. Not that Bitdefender isn't a great product. It is arguably the best consumer-level security solution available. Sure, it has some faults: the pop-ups to buy their VPN are very annoying and full scans can take a really long time. Also, their "Safe Browsing" hardened browser isn't as useful or easy to use as Kaspersky's. (again my humble opinion, folks). But in terms of protection, it can't be faulted- I can attest that it's saved my butt on numerous occasions.(Both from outside threats, like malware and malicious websites, and from myself and my "dangerously curious" nature. My point in all this is that no other company has stepped up to fill the void left by Kaspersky's absence from the American market, and that is terribly unfortunate for the end-user (aka: consumer). You see, competition is a necessary component for capitalism to work. Without it, the consumer will inevitably get screwed because, after all, to paraphrase a great president, "the business of the internet is business". And companies feel obligated to take advantage of market conditions, and so we end up paying higher prices because there's no viable alternative. At least, yet. I hope that regardless of what product you prefer and choose to use, you will put pressure on that company to do better. Because they're supposed to be working for you; not the other way around. ... show more

This Bitdefender version (there are many so choose wisely) is truly total protection (yes, there are upgrades but the basic package is more than enough for most) for many devices. Far less expensive than most of its competitors, some of which do not get the top ratings Bitdefender gets. Security is the one area you do not want to skimp on just to save a few dollars. With Bitdefender, you get great protection at an affordable price. And activating on their website is easy if you have another subscription with them. ... show more

Ad said unlimited VPN, product VPN lasted 10 seconds before turning off and saying upgrade needed. Other not included extras are personal info protection, etc. For a total suite I would like all features. Noticed slower time to get to usable desktop on extremely fast system with 7000mbps OS NVME drive. So there is a bit of performance hit over stock windows defender. Some of the stuff it claims to protect seems to be irrelevant or non event "events". Was hoping for less of that but I guess its just how modern marketing works, I want to see real events like blocking malware, probes of network ports, etc. All in All for price to cover whole family its not bad. A Bit gimmicky though that it said I was getting premium and got 1 level down which doesn't include the password manager, unlimited VPN and extra personally identifiable info protections. I already have a paid pw vault but at price would have been nice to have a backup vault to test. Anyways hopefully its a tad better then stock, coupled with Open DNS or other solutions maybe sufficient for basic protection. Update: Have this on 4 PC's now and my phone, so far the basic functionality seems decent. This is supposed to be one of the better A/V's at preventing issues out the gate. I will still give 4stars despite all the cons, really they should push the premium edition and eliminate all the micro transaction upgrades. Since all my systems appear stable and I like the central dashboard to see status overall I think for the money this is probably the best best as far as A/V with anti-malware and ransomware capabilities. ... show more

Have used Bitdefender Total Security for a few years now. Has kept my devices secure without any loss of speed. Keeps itself updated - almost like it wasn't there but you know it is, protecting your devices from viruses, etc. when bought for multiple devices, seems to be a great value!

I try to research what is good in virus and total protection for my system, and this still came up a good buy. I'm glad to have it and while I know no software if 100% virus or malware proof, this is has served it's purpose for my use very well. I'm not recommending it because of something I find poor with the product. I think everyone should do their own research due to you knowing what you really need for your system and what you do on your computer. For me and general browsing my Mom does on line, looking up stuff for the garden, it protects beautifully. Please do your own research. ... show more

I have been using Kaspersky with great success. Unfortunately it is no longer available and I needed a new virus defender I was in particular search of one that offered safe-money to cover shopping sites and banking sites etc. I have been unable to open any of those while in safe mode. I am continually told I am using the wrong password which I am not and it will not allow me to proceed further and now I cannot access it unless I uninstall Bit defender which I plan to do. I even have to type this in my phone as I cannot access Amazon. Worst Virus protection app. Would love a refund after less than 24 hours of fighting with it. ... show more
