Perfect fit. Wear an 8 1\2. Ordered size 39N Amazed at the glove fit. For anyone with flat flexible feet whose toes spread (genetic defect), Berkinstocks are the ideal fit. My feet look wide barefooted but M medium shoes are either too wide or become too big afyer wear. Being able to tighten the two strap sandal is the BIG PLUS, Infact had to tighten up to the last hole to avoid a loose fit. I've admired this brand for many many years but having had to wear correctional Oxford as a child the thought of a heavy LOOKING shoe always stopped me from purchasing Berkinstocks. I've tried them on every year since being advised they'd be comfortable for my type feet which has affected my back, hip and knees. Looking down at my feet made feet look bigger plus they felt hard. I've always been so picky about shoes LOOKING GOOD on these feet, I'd put them back and buy the latest style in leather and suede. As I said I've always admired others who wear them. The shoe spells expensive taste, however I'd buy 4 or 5 pair of another brand which ended up in closet by end of seasons. I couldn't wait until end of day to put on a pair of the dozens of house slippers. Taking off work, causal or dress shoes occuppied my mind all day or night. For anyone with flat flexible feet NOTICE everyone's feet, toes and shoes know this feeling. Seeing BERKINSTOCK wearers looking so comfortable, relaxed and confident has always awed me. Still I refused to spend $140. 00 to experiment with another brand. Bought them for my children because THEY WERE "THE IN SHOE" everyone was wearing didn't justify buying myself a pair. My daughters didn't inherit my feet. I assumed was why they'd wear The Berkinstock completely out and wanted every style. Online shopping especially with AMAZON gave me the opportunity since retirement to read reviews plus research shoes. Thanks to the thousands who give Berkinstocks 5 Stars, I decided to order a pair, after measuring my feet. I knew from the many years of trying them on I would need a 39N (8 1/2). I chose the Velvet Gray suede. Due to this color being so popular I waited for restocking. They arrived 2 days after order. Honestly I was expecting to be disappointed. To my greatly appreciated amazement they fit perfect, as I described above. Due to having always being disappointed with how a shoe felt, I honestly intimidated these fit TOO WELL. Sounds silly, but if you knew how many thousands of shoes I've thrown money away on you'd understand exactly what I mean. Now that I live on a fixed income $140.00 isn't chump change to me it's important and a nessicity for every dollar to stretch. My point being, had I purchased the Berkinstocks years ago, I could've and would've saved thousands of $$$$$ on shoes and house slippers alone. Having more time to read reviews truly contributes to buying wisely, plus AMAZON has an amazing staff in Customer Service whenever I need to return an item. I no longer put things I can't use in the closet or give it away, I simply return and reorder. Their SHIPPING DEPT. is amazing as well, therefore waiting 2 days for a purchase to be delivered at my door truly is a time saver. I absolutely love Online shopping for this reason, plus no pressure from salespeople or having to go all over town shopping, then bring them in. I love how they fit my feet, great arch support and wide enough to fit my wide (Barney Rubble) feet. They are very comfortable, like the ones I bought over 10 years ago, which I still work around the house.

Was introduced to these in culinary, they are great for long standing on hard surfaces without fatigue, slip resistant and last a long time - I had my first pair for 7 years- I replaced the insoles2-3 times I still have the first pair itβs been 15 years and I use them walking, best cost

OMG!!! SOOOO comfortable.I nearly decapitated the top of my Tibia last year....and I can tell you it has been a long haul. I still have difficulty walking due to pain and all sorts of other stuff. But any hoo I've been wearing Crocs and Uggs for the most part because my foot is somewhat bigger now and I'm going for comfort rather than style. I have to say these are by far the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on. As Soon as I wake up I put them on and don't take them off until bed. I have notice a decrease in pain at night and I do have a lot more comfortable days. Woo Hooooo!

Tl;DR: The sizing of these shoes is off by 2 to 3 sizes, so if you usually wear a 9 you'll want to order a 7 or a 6.5. I bought these sandals after reading The Source: The Untold Story of Father Yod, Ya Ho Wa 13, and The Source Family, which I also bought on Amazon. In the book they are cited as a popular favorite sandal for the Source Family and since I'm going through a sort of obsession with their history and a general hippy life phase I decided to try these out to further my hippy-wear wardrobe. These sandals were very popular in the seventies primarily for two reasons: 1. There were no other shoes available at the time with orthopedic shaping for the feet in the US. 2. They were brought to the US and introduced to the hippy community by someone who was passionate about them after having acquired a pair in Germany, where Birkenstock originates. Having worn these sandals for a couple of days I must say that people in Europe must have freakishly long feet because when my toes rest over the pit where they are supposed to fit there's a good inch and a half to two inches behind my heal. I wear a US 9.5 and bought these in a 9. They appear to be about a size too large at least. In regard to their overall construction: The upper deck of the shoe is made from cork which is supposed to conform to your foot, but as mentioned unless you're a Sasquatch it is unlikely that will actually happen. This is one of the major complaints of these shoes: If they fit you they're very comfortable, but if they don't, they just don't. Because the foot bed is shaped like a food and it is rigid, you may have to try on several pairs before you find one that fits, which makes shopping for these shoes difficult. And even if you find a pair that fits, if you have any unusual features to your feet they probably won't match the shape of the shoe, so there's some measure of risk involved in purchasing these sandals. The "Birko-Flor" material appears to be a synthetic material sandwiched together in two layers with some kind of adhesive. After a couple of days of wear some of the fluff from my white socks has come off and lined the sticky edges of the straps, giving them a white rim. The material does not appear to be particularly durable, as it has already developed wrinkles after two adjustments of the straps. I am certain in time it will crack and that the layers will come apart. The lower portion of the sandal is made from the sort of "house shoe" material you find on cheaply made slippers for wear around the house. This is not surprising considering this sandal is used strictly for wear around the house in its home country of Germany, but I would have thought sometime in the last 40 years the company would have adapted the sandal for use in the US as Americans wear them by giving them a more solid lower rubber layer. These sandals are also particularly rigid. If you are used to newer-design shoes that flex with your step you may find these sandals hard to walk in and a bit noisy. They also have a tendency to fall off because of their rigidity, but this is also due in part to their overly large dimensions. Edit 12/22/21014: I was not able to order the color I wanted on Amazon because when I select a color and then a size on the order page the color reverts to something else. I was not able to find a combination of working the size and color selections that would produce a suitable combination, so I ordered them from Zappos (also an Amazon brand). Zappos offers the same two-day delivery as Amazon Prime, and if you order with their mobile app they will give you next day delivery for free, so I composed the order on their website through my computer, then logged into the app and checked out there. I finally got the correct size of these shoes after trying four pairs. Even though I need a size 9.5 US for most shoes I had to go down to a 7 in these shoes, which means their sizing is off by 2.5 to 3 sizes.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend, whom loves them. They come with the footbed already soft and broken in unlike other Birkenstocks that have the leather that takes time to soften and mold to your feet. These had suede black upper straps and black buckles. Overall I thought that this was a great look and a good buy
