The splatter on the "Birchwood Casey 12"x18" Pregame Shooting Targets" is white and can be difficult to see from any distance. We used these with 22-250 rifles at 100-200 yards and even with our scopes we had trouble finding the holes. My shooting buddy and I have shot these targets at 25 and 50 yards with Ruger 10/22 rifles. It's a blast! A lot more fun than your typical bulls eye or silhouette targets. 50 yards was a real challenge even with our scopes but that added to the fun. We decided we're going to have a go at 35 yards and see if that's a happy medium between out two previous rounds. They are also fun in my basement target range (30 feet) with pellet pistols. (Hey, it's Minnesota and I'm not crazy enough to go out to the outdoor range when it's 40 below.) ... show more

These Battleship 'splatter' targets are an enjoyable way to break-up the usual target shooting experience. Pros: Target 'hits' show-up easily and are quite visible thanks to the white 'splatter' marks that appear on the target. In order to play the game as prescribed by Brichwood, we actually cut the target into 2 pieces (along the center line) and posted the Red target on 1 stand and the Green target on a separate stand -- allowing the shooters to alternate shots without any need to physically move around. Target colors are bright, rich, and easy-to-see in sunlight or dusk. The game itself is fun and easy to play. Tie-breaker rules are also included. New and seasoned shooters enjoy playing this at our target range. We've also found that breaking up your shooters into 2 teams, and alternating shooters each time a magazine is emptied, is a fun way to elevate the competition. Cons: Only 2 drawbacks to this target game: 1 - the actual dots on each ship are in reality quite small and difficult to visually see beyond 15 yards or so; 2 - introducing a perforated line down the center of the targets would make it easier to take them apart for team shooting Overall: We'll be purchasing another package of these targets in the future--particularly if they go on sale. Most in-store prices are higher than necessary for these targets. I recommend purchasing from Amazon or an online retailer with a discount. ... show more

These are really fun targets to shoot at. I grew tired of the same old boring targets. I came across the Birchwood Casey Battle Target and purchased these to have a little more fun while out shooting. These add more strategy to your shooting as well. Instead of attempting to hit a bulls eye on a paper target you have sixteen different bullseye targets. As you might expect, these targets are similar to the game of Battleship. Each ship has a certain amount of targets that must be hit prior to the ship being sunk. The Battleship takes 5 hits to sink. The really neat part about these targets is that when they are hit with the bullet they react to form a white splatter around where the bullet impacted. This allows you to more accurately see if you hit your target. This feature is especially helpful if you are shooting from a distance. I have mainly used 9MM ammunition with this target, and it has worked great. Makes shooting even more fun that it was before. Also adds a little healthy competition when you are out shooting with a friend. I honestly did not find any downside to using these targets. I like them so much that they have become my go to target for shooting. ... show more

I bought these as an alternative to our standard B-27 silhouette targets. They were a blast! (no pun intended). Although they are a bit small (~12"x18" - they barely fit into the target holders on our indoor range), we set them at 7yds and had great time with them! The splatter back makes the shots easy to see, and the alternating shots aspect of this type of shooting is very different than "normal" target practice - every shot has to count! The competition was between my LEO brother and I. We shot both .45ACP and .40S&W and both worked well. We even had another customer at the range asked where we got them! One aspect of these targets that made them interesting was the variety of target patterns. Some ships have successive shots horizontally, some vertically, and some ships are only a single shot. Each of these variants requires different corrections/skills to master and differentiates these targets from others on the market that appear similar. I highly recommend them for anyone who's interested in trying something new and different with a friend at the range! ... show more
