If you’re still trying to decide - BUY THIS! Easy to set up, easy to maintain. Beautiful design. I have Rasboras, a nerite snail, a bladder snail and cherry shrimp in mine with all live plants. The water stays crystal clear, no chemicals needed! I feed Instant Brine Shrimp food once a day and top off the tank with spring water when needed.     • Rough waters for Betta

The media could not be loaded. After searching around for a few days for a tank that would comfortably fit a betta in my office, I settled on this one. Wish it came with a heater. They say not to put one on the acrylic, but that's the heater I had on hand so that's what it gets. I don't think it will melt it at 75 degrees F but we'll find out. Unboxing, the sponge in the filter fell out and made a huge mess of the zeolite and carbon bits on the floor. So I just kinda swept em up and put them back in lol luckily my floor wasn't too dirty at the time. The built in bubbler creates way too much turbulence for a Betta, so I put that ugly filter sponge over it. It's been there for a few days now and the air pump hasn't exploded yet so. Yay. I plan to get some plants and stuff to obscure it. But the other thing is the opening on the top is pretty small, so it will limit what I can put in. Also you would have to eviscerate the bubbler in order to replace the substrate (I've seen videos of people doing this) so I will have to find plants that either float or are cool with growing on rocks. The rocks are part of the filtration. They tell you to throw out any small ones but there were so many I said f it and just tried to keep the little ones away from the center. I wish it came in 5 gallons as that's the recommended space for a Betta but he seems pretty happy and it's a step up from my old 1.5 gallon.. and definitely a step up from the little cup he lived in at the store. It's definitely nice looking and I like the opaque sides so Mr. Hanzo doesn't have too many reflective surfaces to stress him out. The small base makes it perfect for the little table I have it on. It's also nice that it comes with it's own water conditioner and bacterial starter. So far, over all, I'm pretty happy with it. If you have limited space and need some aesthetic, it's great. --- EDIT: after several months of use, I figured I'd update my review. It's still quiet and working as intended. It occurred to me that they make valves that you can adjust the air flow to your stone with, so i ditched the giant sponge and just use one of those now. Two things though. One: This thing is a serious, colossal pain in the butt to clean. I would not buy this again. You have to take the rocks out to get the debris under/around them. You can only grab a few at a time though because the opening is so small. It's also not big enough to get a fish net in there without a struggle, so there's that too. Second thing, this is just not great for a Betta. I moved Hanzo to a horizontal 7 gallon when he seemed to get depressed a couple weeks in and he's much happier now. Honestly if you are looking at this for a betta tank, just get something bigger and longer. Bettas need to come up to the surface for air and 4 gallons is not ideal to begin with. Also if you didn't know, a single male betta can hang with other peaceful fish just fine! Oh, and, the heater has not compromised the tank yet. There is a little notch built in to the (ultra super tiny) lid for the cord too. ... show more

It’s my third aquarium kit and it’s my favorite so I’m fixing to buy it again for a friend. I bought the translucent on all sides and I love it. The light is amazing. It is a little bit harsh of a bubble, so I stuck some filter sponge down in it to make the bubbles a little less dramatic.

This aquarium looks nice but is not convenient to clean. Need to purchase additional items to pump water out. First month it worked fine and water was clean. When I changed the filter and air bullet, I cleaned aquarium, sand plant. I also changed on fresh purified water and added conditioner. This took me at least 45 mins to clean and changed everything. But the most disappointing thing was that water turned blurry and green in one week after replacing filter and water. Looks like plankton started growing very fast. I don’t want to use it anymore…Not ready to spend so much time to clean it every week :(( ... show more

I got this aquarium as a beginner aquarium for a betta. Pros: - it looks nice - easy to set up - the light is pretty cool, esp if you get the multi color changing one Cons: - The flow is a bit strong - The hole at the top is not the easiest for automatic feeders (although its doable, you can get a mechanical feeder, but just need to elevate it so the food doesn't get stuck) - The hole also doesn't make it easy to vacuum / clean overall - Not a huge fan of the rocks, they get dirty underneath and its hard to clean. Can't really easily switch to sand ( I heard there are modifications you can make, but its not easy) - hard to clean the rounded edges - not necessarily a con, but I found the Marineland portrait aquarium has an easier filter and also a place to hide the heater, which after owning an aquarium for a year and being someone who doesn't like maintenance and wires, is quite nice. ... show more
