These curtains fit the bill for what we wanted them for; to act as a thermal barrier as they are advertised. They do help to cut down on the winter chill coming through our windows. We don't get the single digit winter temperatures like the Midwest or East Coast but we do get some temperatures down in the 30s. These curtains help keep our living room warmer. The black fabric 'sheen' is similar to an eggshell finish. Nearly matte. As matte as I think you will get from any polyester-blend type fabric. Very happy about that. No clotted or loose threads. Nice hems and seams. Material has an appropriate heft and hang. Reverse on black is also black. Silver grommets. Used for only privacy on 2 windows in main living area if we are not fully-dressed; therefore, we use it more like a window shade. Cannot comment on blackout quality; keep open during the day for woods view. I iron drapes before installation. Use a LOW heat with steam setting. I would purchase this brand of drapes again. Wow! I was very impressed with the quality of these curtains, and they truly are opaque—no light getting through. The material and craftsmanship are excellent, and they weigh less than our previous curtains which had a backing on them to keep the light out that went to pieces in the washer. These curtains do not have a backing, but do a superb job of keeping the light out. I have no need to wash them right now, but the time comes, I am confident they will be quite fine.
