Excellent quality. Worth the price. The was my first purchase of a larger cast net. I had a 4 foot one, but needed a larger one. The small hole size allows you to catch smaller bait plus doesn't get hung up in the gills of larger bait fish. I soaked it in a 5 gallon bucket with 1 cup of fabric softener overnight before using and it became nice and limp and easy to throw. Nice an heavy weight. I have not used it for bait yet, but through it in the pool a bunch and sinks nice and quick. My friends have cheaper nets and you can tell the difference right away. Well, I have had to restitch it near the weights a couple of different times, because of tearing of the mono is pretty easy to do. It's made out of size 8lb or so monofilament line so it can tear kinda easily. If you hold the net closer to the weights when you throw it... it will literally JUMP open perfectly almost every time. It has REALLY heavy lead weights and is great for catching tiny fish and every fish it gets around. If you're in a creek, instead of yanking it to close asap, just kinda pull it slowly with a jerk every now and then... it keeps the weights on bottom and when you jerk it slightly, the fish close to the weights will spook back towards the middle of the net instead of going under the netting below the weights. ... show more

I use this net for catching shad and shiner minnows for bait (1.5 - 9 inches long), usually about 6 ft deep or less. I like it because even the smaller minnows' gills do not usually get hung up in the 1/4 inch mesh (MUCH better in this regard than a 3/8 inch mesh). The 4 ft radius is much easier to throw than larger nets, and more than adequate for my needs. It drops through the water a bit more slowly than a 3/8 inch mesh, and this might be a negative for extremely clear water (not sure) but in water visibility of less than 3 ft it works just great.     • As a striper and catfish guide, it about the bait
If you get a smaller cheap net, it will snap back on you before you hit the water. If you ever watch a cast net on a Garmin Live Scope, you'll see how quickly a cast net closes as it falls. You have to get the net all the way open as the net hits the water. Bett's nets are soft and made of the best materials. As a striper and catfish guide, and if you can't catch live bait, you have to work way harder to put clients on fish. 1/4 inch or 3/8? What one is better for you? Depends on what you're catching. If I use 3/8 mesh, I get way too many shad caught in the net. Gills caught on the net and then they're as good as dead. This 1/4 inch will fall slower but the heavier weighs help compensate ... show more
