  • I got more than I paid for!! BetterSax Classic Alto Sax
I was pleasantly surprised with the high quality of Classic Alto Saxophone at such a reasonable price point. Very nice response on the entire range of the instrument. I bought this as a backup for my Mark VI, but it will be getting equal play time for sure at my upcoming gigs! Thank you Jay for providing this amazing product at a very affordable price!! ... show more

  • Stunning!
I was motivated by watching Jay Metcalf's videos and wanting to try something new I decided to buy a saxophone. I ordered one from another company and it got lost in shipping. I'm so glad it did and I decided to spend the extra money and ordered this one instead. I have no idea what I'm doing but this instrument is absolutely beautiful. I was floored when I followed Jay's instructions and got a beautiful sounding note on my first attempt. The case is gorgeous also! I'm excited to start this journey.....watch out Lisa Simpson here I come! ... show more

  • First Impressions
Very well packaged. The case is very good quality. Love the finish and overall condition of sax is excellent. New to alto sax but all component/parts function properly. I'm use to playing a straight soprano so ergonomics are a bit strange initially. To be expected. The missing star in my rating is because of the mouthpiece and ligature. No markings on the mouthpiece so not clue to what it is. Both mouthpiece and ligature have a cheap feel to them. I think my soprano mouthpiece weighs more than this alto. It plays, but see an upgraded mouthpiece in my future. My last issue is the retaining strap on the case that limits how far you open the case. It will only open 90 degrees. When you remove the sax body the case flops over spilling out the contents. Glad I removed the neck from the case first. The body and neck are very good and I'm sure with some time and practice we will become good friends. Excellent instrument at a great price for sure. ... show more

  • Nice instrument
Appears to be a well built alto sax. Fits and finish have no apparent flaws. Sound is great when played. Keys feel good. The only complaint I have is the ligature. It is the cheapest thing I have seen. Replace it with one of better quality.

  • Good sax , good value
First impressions are that it seems to be well built. I am re learning the sax after 50 hrs . I rented a alto sax a few months earlier to get started. This sax plays much better. Low notes are easier to hit. My only complaint is the ligature is to small. The better sax reed bearly fit. Vandoren reeds not at all. Shipping was fast and arrived in good shape. ... show more

  • If my hand was smaller this sax would be 5 Star.
I have an aristocrat saxophone. Old and seen better days. It had a funky C note that I just couldn't get around to playing with. So I bought the Jean Paul sax per Jay's review. Ok for the price. When the better sax became available, I bought it. But I found out during extensive practicing that the key is interfering with playing. The D# key (see the pictures) I don't know if it is just mine or they are all like this. Beware if you have big hands. The Price is good. The look is good and the tone is good. I just can't practice too long without it hurting my finger. ... show more

  • Outstanding Value
As a former professional musician returning after an 8-year break, I am thoroughly impressed with the BetterSax alto. The key layout is ergonomic and compact, making it feel intuitive immediately, and the horn is lightweight which makes it a joy to playb longer sessions on. It arrived well-adjusted and plays beautifully in tune across the entire range. I might eventually bring it to technician to have the springs stiffness reduced a little bit. The case isn't exactly fancy but its focus is on function: protective, lots of storage, lots of handles, even backpack straps. My only minor complaint is the provided ligature, which is too small for the provided mouthpiece or any hard rubber Alto mouthpiece. While it is easy to buy a separate ligature, if I was a younger player or if a $1,000 saxophone was already a considerable investment, it would be a frustrating experience to get what is essentially a non-functional ligature. Despite this minor issue, this is a fantastic horn for beginners, intermediate and even pro players. Will it compete with a great example of a vintage Selmer Mark VI? Probably not but it's not meant to. It's also 10 times cheaper. This is truly an amazing value for the money with no complaints regarding the instrument itself. ... show more

  • Damaged Alto Better Sax neck will not tighten ?
The media could not be loaded. The item is defective. No damage to the box. There is a screw that doesn't tighten as it should. The neck of horn will not stay stationary even with screw as far as it can be tighten. This is something I thought would work out after a little use. It has not. I paid for protection and submitted warranty information to Better Sax. ... show more
