I have a Surface Pro with a mini display port. I have a Dell branded dongle that does not work with the Surface Pro. This tells me that Dell or Microsoft is using proprietary standards. I purchased this unit and it worked straight away on my Surface Pro. So Microsoft is not to blame. Dell is using proprietary standards. This unit gave me full audio and video output which is awesome. Display Port (DP) is great but a lot of the equipment that I connect to is HDMI or older tech. Even newer TV's/Projectors still have HDMI so I like that this goes from mini DP to HDMI.
