    • A solid bed that allows for much better use of space

Unlike many people buying a TwinXL loft, I'm not doing so for my kids. It's for a room that is an office and bedroom. So I have to make the most of the space. I ended up putting the room's loveseat underneath the loft which freed up a ton of room. Pros: -Sturdy, well built, and has stairs. -Stairs: this is the reason I purchased this bed. If I ever have a rough day where I don't want to climb up and down a steep ladder at night, this is much safer. -Well engineered: The parts all come together really well so that assembly was quite easy. More on that below. -Extra parts: no missing parts and more parts than I needed, thankfully! -Sufficient storage space underneath Cons: -Underneath the bed is only 40" tall by default. That's not high enough for adults to sit or work under comfortably. -One bar came with a slight bend in it, but it was packaged well overall. -Very heavy. I used a hand truck to move these two boxes into my house and bedroom. If you need to take it upstairs, you'll need to unpack it and spend an hour or two taking a few parts up at a time (unless you or one of your kids is the Hulk). -Controller for the LED lights doesn't function as it should (e.g., turning lights to blue makes them green instead; lights don't go up and down in brightness, lots of buttons don't work). But this is really not a big deal since the lights were just a bonus. Assembly Feedback and Tips -Don't tighten bolts all the way until you have all the bolts in place for the step you're in. Everything fits well with patience, but you have to get all your bolts in about 3/4 of the way, and then tighten them all a little at a time. -I got an Alan wrench bit for my drill, which sped things up a little. -By myself, it took about five hours to unpack, set up, and get things cleaned up. -While I did it by myself, I don't recommend that. A few of the steps near the end are difficult if you don't have an extra set of hands to hold something up while you put in a bolt. -Pay very close attention to how pieces should be oriented - there's one right way and several wrong ways for most pieces. -The instructions have you begin with the stair handrails to the far right. I mention that in case getting a mental picture of what you're doing helps you. Boosting the Bed Higher While this is probably not recommended by the manufacturer, after assembling, I used a car jack and some 2x4's to lift the bed and place it on cement blocks with concrete caps. This gives me 10" or more extra headroom underneath. I then anchored it to the wall to make sure it doesn't move. I've now got about 5' of clearance underneath. Once the mattress is in place, there is basically no railing at all. While my kid still says she feels safe and is not going to fall off, it makes me very nervous about accidents. Also the pillows keep falling off the top bed during the night because there is no railing by the head of the bed. Overall it is sturdy and went together easily, and it’s beautiful, but wish the railings were maybe 3-5 inches higher. Those of you with younger kiddos, this is maybe not the bed you are looking for if they move around a lot in their sleep. For older kiddos it has great space underneath! We were able to fit her desk underneath and a little comfy seat and it still feels spacious. Saves a ton of floor space! ... show more

Bought this for my 9 year old and he loves it. It's definitely the hardest piece of furniture I've ever assembled because of the number of parts, BUT it's extremely well made and the pieces fit perfectly if you do it correctly. Twice we had a bar turned the wrong way and struggled to tighten the screws. But once we fix the mistake, it went together easily. You need 2 people to assemble. Very sturdy. Decent for a teenager. Design looks good. Great for a smaller space. The biggest negative is that two of the front rails were dented. Right in the front, so looks old even though it's new. The box was not damaged, so it was knowingly packaged for delivery that way. No response received from customer service. ... show more

    • Freaking Amazing Bed Frame! Worth every penny!

This bed is freaking amazing! We live in a large studio and wanted to gain floor space. We took a risk and ordered 2 twin XLs and made a large bed. Not advising you do this as it is not meant to be used this way. We used a RV king mattress turned sideways which gave us room at the end for our feet to hang off instead of hitting the metal railing. We are not large (260 combined weight) nor tall adults (5'5" and 5'7"), well below the weight limit of just one of the beds. We strapped together with a lot of metal pipe clamps. You will need metal skills to complete the bed as we had to cut/weld some pieces, rearrange and add stability points. Good news, you will have a lot of extra parts from the second bed! Made a very large office space for me underneath! Of course I have to duck to go under but can sit fully upright at a standard sized desk with 2 inches of headroom. Significantly cheaper than the 2K adult versions out there! ... show more
