This helmet is amazing. Its very light (even with the chin bar attached), comfortable, and manufactured well using high-quality materials. The padding inside is very comfortable on the head and seems to be durable (only time will tell). The chin bar is designed very well which makes it comfortable on the face and its also easy to remove and reattach. The chin strap is also designed well as it is magnetic and requires very little effort to clip and unclip. This is a huge bonus since most riders wear gloves which can be tricky to use with traditional chin strap clips. The best part of this helmet is the MIPS system which is a really neat feature that seems like it adds a lot of safety over traditional helmet padding. I would recommend this helmet to anyone in the market for a MTB helmet that cannot decide between open face or full face. This helmet gives you both of those options with a high level of safety in both of it's forms. The price is high but you get what you pay for. You're essentially getting 2 helmets in 1 package with the highest level of safety you could ask for in a helmet with these features. Also, my biggest concern when buying this helmet was how it looked and fit without the chin bar. I was worried that it would be huge and give the "mushroom head" effect when the chin bar is removed. How much is your face worth? I got this for ebike commuting and have been very pleased. It's comfortable, has good ventilation, the magnetic clip on the strap works great, and it's super solid. You can take off the chin piece for casual rides and it's easy to remove and install after you get the hang of it. I wish thy had a version that wasn't optimized for downhill riding (the visor doesn't block the sun when you're riding on flat ground) but it's still an incredible helmet and worth the high cost. ... show more

    • Safety and Comfort
This is my second Bell Super DH. In the past, I have also purchased the Bell Super 3R. While I suggest going to a retailer to try this helmet on, it fits my round head pretty well. I like the fact that I can wear this as a full face or a half shell. As a full face, the helmet is light enough to be worn for pedal-up laps at the bike park without feeling claustrophobic. Most of the time, I use this helmet as a half shell for longer rides (4K in elevation: 17+ miles) because it is more comfortable than some of the dedicated half shells I’ve tried. The adjustable inner harness makes it easy to get a comfortable fit, and the bottom of the helmet extends down far enough to meet a neck brace. I like it.
