This synth has a proper MS-20 design, it sounds great, it's built well, and considering its price, it's a great success. Both its filter types (based on the first and second MS-20 versions) are excellent. The sound is unmistakably "MS-20", and with "filter 1" you will absolutely get that Analog Worms Attack (by Mr. Oizo) sound, and much more. It has great "analog sound", proper voltage-controlled oscillators that sound just as good as many modular VCOs, Behringer's Model D, etc. Those oscillators don't sound lousy like those of many other "desktop synthesizers" on the market (you know what I'm talking about, you can hear those "cold", terrible oscillators everywhere). It doesn't have the terrible high frequency attenuation that many other synths have (due to their filters), especially when filter resonance (or "Peak") is at 0. It can be as crisp as you want it to be. The sound can be as "over the top" and "screaming" or as dark or mellow and tame as you want. The resonant high-pass filter is very good and allows sounds you can't get with synths that only have a low-pass filter or a single multi-mode filter. You have to be aware of the limitations: First of all, this synthesizer (like the MS-20) does NOT give you proper keyboard tracking for the filter cutoff. The only way to get some kind of tracking is by patching the "KBD CV OUT" to the "CUTOFF FREQ" input, but you lose the envelope feature, you don't have any decay. It is possible to patch KBD CV OUT to an external mixer that combines it with an envelope, and patch the mixer output to the filter CV input, and then you get a keyboard-tracking filter. But... if you want to use this synth's own envelope, that's also a problem, because it only has a reverse output for the envelope signal (EG2), so you'll also have to patch that to an external inverter. Finally, you don't have note-accurate tracking, because it can only kind-of work for a few notes, but then strays way off, because of the synth's Hertz/Voltage design. The Hertz/Voltage design, as opposed to Voltage/Octave, also means that much of the signal output and input won't "behave" as expected with the rest of your modular / semi-modular gear. Of course, it can still be useful in many cases. The envelope (EG2) is extremely quirky, and often not in a good way, so don't expect a textbook-design ADSR. When you release the note, and your Release is set to anything except minimum, and your Decay is quick, you can expect the filter cutoff to "snap back up", and when the Attack is not at minimum, it complicates it further. Sometimes it's not so bad, but in some cases it can be pretty ridiculous. This is just a quirky, erroneous design similar to the original, so don't blame Behringer. On the other hand, this envelope is great for much or our beloved synth sequences, it's very "tight" and just really cool, and it's a major factor behind "that MS-20 sound". This is another Behringer synth with the ridiculous legato quirk that prevents the envelope from retriggering even when MIDI notes don't overlap. You have to shorten the notes. This limitation has nothing to do with the MS-20, which has no such limitation when you send notes to it via CV using a hardware sequencer or a software sequencer using Silent Way, or anything. One note starting where the previous one ends does not count as overlapping. This is just a bad design by Behringer, and I hope they'll fix it, but it seems they want to continue with this incredibly bad design. The only reason I don't give a lower score because of this problem is the price.

This is an accurate replica of the Korg MS-1. The potentiometers have a solid feel and the sound is clear and strong with no issues. Any basic midi controller with a 5-pin out works fine.

This is the first Behringer synth I've purchased, it won't be the last. Excellent value, great sounds, Eurorack compatibility for around $200.

I've been using this a lot lately. Found a patch that sounded very much like a Daft Punk lead in "Da Punk" and love it. If you want to put the time in to create some good patches, this one is worth it.

I just recieved this synthesizer and i connected it and the first thing i noticed is that it wont give me sound signal through the main output. when i hook up the headphones i can hear but i cannot hear anything through the main output...the problem is that i live outside the us and i cant believe im having this problem, please tell me what can i do because i just recieved a defective product and its not easy sending anything back from my country to the USA...
