    • An Amazing Musical Instrument
Review Image by Amazon Customer
The original ARP 2600 has always been on my list of synthesizers to obtain one day. Like many of my vintage synths, the original in good condition is effectively unobtainable for my budget. The Behringer version of the 2600 is simply an amazing and complex instrument. I have owned several analog synthesizers over the years, but none have required the amount of education and skill of this one. The sounds are everything you would expect from a 1970's vintage synthesizer: warm, fat, and nuanced. If you are not familiar with the original, the learning curve is steep. However, the educational opportunities to understand synthesis at its most fundamental level make this instrument a nice balance between some of the simpler semi-modular synthesizers and fully modular ones. This is my second purchase of a Behringer "classic" synthesizer with the first being the Model D take on the original Minimoog design. The Model D is wonderful, no question, however the 2600 can take one's skills to an entirely new level. My recommendation is to download a pdf of the original ARP 2600 manual online. My complaint on Behringer products is the lack of clear documentation. The original ARP 2600 manual is not an exact match, but it much more clearly takes the user through the process of understanding analog synthesis and how to create original and interesting sounds. Behringer has announced several new "recreations" of classic 70's synthesizers of which I have owned the originals of. I can say so far that the 2600 is a top-of-the-line instrument for creative output and I will enjoy learning this for many years to come. ... show more
