  • I am a former nail professional and cosmetologist
UPDATE: The last two pictures were taken 2 weeks later and almost time for a fill. No lifting. No problems. No kidding. This review is from a professional cosmetologist with more than 45 years nail experience. I have experience with just about every type of nail treatment there is. I’m proficient in acrylic, hard gel, poly gel, etc. sculpting from scratch, using overlay or tips. You name it and I’ve used it on a client or myself. After years of also working in an office behind a computer & a keyboard, my hands are toast. I need to have surgery as my carpal tunnel is so bad. So, I can no longer take clients. I also cannot do my own nails. It’s just too painful. Even with an E-drill. It’s just too much fine work. I recently discovered the soft gel system. This is a game changer. I did both hands in under an hour with salon quality results at home. There is a bit of a learning curve, but just keep practicing. The biggest hurdle is making sure you don’t have any air bubbles so you have to press the nail down hard during the flash cure. I started with my regular nail prep. Push back your cuticles and remove any excess. Next, a gentle buff to remove the shine. Clean your nail bed with alcohol on a lint free wipe, or I prefer to use a soft bristle toothbrush for this. Make sure you have the correct nail sizes picked out beforehand. I also have a special tip primer that I use (underneath where the tip adheres to your nail bed only). Next double prime your nail beds (one hand at a time). A side note about the little UV light that’s included, this is only supposed to be used as a flash cure, it’s not meant to do your final cure. You should have a full size UV light for your finished treatment (Not included. But there are several cost efficient options available on Amazon). My final cure Under a full-size lamp is 60-90 seconds. After your double prime, use the Beetles nail glue gel and do a thin coat on your nail bed and do a quick flash cure for about 10 to 15 seconds. Then get your tip ready, apply the gel to the tip over your primer. This is the part that takes a little practice, but you will get used to it. Don’t use too much gel. Apply the tip back at your cuticle area first, pressing/rocking forward (use a lot of pressure to get rid of any air pockets). Flash cure under the light for 10 seconds. Once you feel the gel grab, let go and finish flash curing. My light turned off automatically at about 60 seconds or so. During the learning curve, I ended up with a little bit of excess gel on my side walls and/or underneath. But this is easily taken care of. With practice it will become less and less. That’s it. Then follow the directions included by the manufacturer. I always put another layer of gel over the top for increased strength as I’m very hard on my nails. You can either wear them natural or polish. Make sure you use a good cuticle oil to keep your nails and cuticles healthy. Then you can polish and do any nail art you would like. I’m very impressed with this little kit and I will keep using it at home. For a longer lasting treatment, make sure to use gloves when doing the dishes, etc. Anytime you get your nails wet, they expand and contract, and it puts stress on your manicure. Also, remember every time you use a UV light, the gel just keep getting harder. Even on a previously cured set. If you over cure, they can get brittle. These can also be filled like a full set of sculpted acrylic, or gel nails. If they haven’t lifted, you don’t need to take them off and re-apply from scratch. Just use the Beetles gel to fill them after using the same prep, as mentioned above. Happy manicuring everybody. I’m truly happy with this product and I will continue to use this as it is an extremely affordable and easy option for me. ... show more

  • AMAZING!!!
I got this set on sale for 19.99. I couldn’t resist the price!!! Now, I’ve been painting my nails for over 10 years but applying fake nails? I’ve always had them done! So I’m 100% a beginner at the diy fake nails. This was sooooo easy though! And they last as long as a professional set from the salon. The lamp it comes with is absolutely perfect for the gluing process. The video shows you how to do that it’s very self explanatory so I’m not gonna do it for you. Do make sure that you do not get air bubbles during the gluing process. You will see them and they will make your fake nail pop off. Once you place the glue on the fake nail and lay it down, that’s it. Don’t move it and try to reposition it. That’s what causes air bubbles. Don’t put so much glue down that it squeezes out of the sides. It looks bad for one, but also eventually that glue that squeezed out on the is exposed. So it will break down over time and that’s gonna lead to having a open gap in your nails which is gonna allow water And stuff to get in and your nail will pop off. Practice makes perfect. These are mistakes I’ve already made. Back to the lamp. While it is perfect for the gluing process, it’s awful for drying your polish. You can only dry one nail at a time. Also because it is an open lamp, there are no lights drying the sides of your nail so you have to flip each nail on both sides and dry them for a whole cycle. So you’re looking at 3 plus light cycles for your base coat, polish, and top coat for ONE NAIL!!! It took me almost 7 hours on my first set because of the dry time. Do yourself a favor and buy a 48 watt nail lamp like they have at the salon. The beetles official website recommends a 48 watt lamp. Now, the fake nails that came with it were all slightly to narrow for me but luckily I bought full cover fake nails from a separate company on Amazon that worked out really well for me! I also purchased a set of fall colors from the beetles nail company through Amazon and they work beautifully!!! I work in a warehouse so my job is very hands on and hard labor and these nails haven’t budged at all. Overall, I highly recommend this product. VERY beginner friendly! I know getting acrylics done for your daughters and nieces can get pricy, and I recommend buying them this! I’m getting my niece this as soon as I can! One more thing, they soak off fairly easy in a bowl of acetone. I recommend getting drill to get the glue off, because the soak off process is definitely tedious and long. I hope this long review was helpful lol ... show more

  • Game Changer for GelX customers!
this extension set has been a total game changer for me. I have been getting my nails done at salons for 15 years straigh- with inflation and the economy, the price to get your nails done at a salon is triple what it was when I began getting them done. This is not sustainable for somebody that works paycheck to paycheck, howevr, self-care is very important to me and getting my nails done was not something I wanted to give up. I have tried every type of press-on nail out there. regardless of brand or price, they would be falling off or breaking off within a day. I first bought this product during Prime days when the price was even cheaper than a set of press-ons at the drug store and I figured why not give it a try, not expecting any special outcome. The set is so easy to use. It is as close to getting them done at the salon as you can get. Aside from the use of drills, the process is essentially the same thing as getting a set of gel Xtensions how any nail tech would do them. since I have been doing them with this kit on my own, I constantly get compliments on my nails and people are blown away that I did them myself - even people I have known for years that know I am an avid nail salon. customer, cannot tell the difference. I've had so many people ask me for the link to purchase this and I'm constantly recommending it to people. I know of course it is not the exact same quality and they aren't lasting me 2 to 3 weeks like the salon that would do but with the set including so many extensions the number of times I could do my nails with one kit for under $20 doesn't even compare to paying $80 every two weeks. i'm even purchasing a set for my cousin for Christmas and I will continue using this product for the foreseeable future. you will not regret purchasing this item, and for the price, even if you're going back-and-forth, just pull the trigger and try it.. it's as simple as painting your nails with the glue, pressing the extension, and curing it under the small included UV light for 60 seconds. Unbelievably easy, quick, and then you can file paint design and accessorize them however you want. I am someone who is constantly trying to find inexpensive ways to keep up with self-care without compromising quality, and this product has hit the mark closer than any other thing I have tried in the beauty world. ... show more

  • So easy & convenient
I want to start off by saying that this product is really good. I learned how to do acrylic nails. It takes a long time for me to do my own nails and I feel like this method is much easier and faster to do on yourself. It’s also a fast method if you want nails done quickly for an occasion. Pros: so easy to use, it comes with all the basic stuff you need… Make sure you measure all ur full cover tips prior to applying.. make sure it fits correctly. It’s better to have it be a little big and you can always file to fit it than for it to be small on your nail bed and later on cause it to lift. I used my drill to buff out the shine on my nails and also applied a dehydrator. I went ahead and applied the gel “glue” to the nail and applied to my nail. Press firmly to get all air bubbles out and cure in the mini lamp. The cool part it’s that it has a sensor so it will turn on when you put your nail under. It will cure for a minute then automatically turn off. I just flashed cured every single nail and then cured all my hand under my regular lamp. I buffed the shine from the nail and applied a thin layer of base gel then cured it. Then proceed to painting it with ur desired gel color. Or nail polish (what ever you choose) CONS: I feel like the full cover nail tips are a little thin and more on the flimsy side. Is you wash dishes or use water a lot you will notice they feel “bendy” specially if you choose to leave them longer. I have bought full cover tips on Amazon from a different vendor that are a little bit more thick. It’s just a preference but they still hold up pretty nicely. **This is my review after 1 week. And they still look really good. Only some slight cuticle lifting on left hand on middle finger and index finger. Other than that they are holding up really good! 😊 Definitely recommend considering how inexpensive the kit is.. ... show more

  • The best at home acrylic solution yet!
The photo above are hard working real life 2 week old nails. It is brutal cold here in Minnesota and I am a working full time realtor/wife/mom of 3. These nails have been through it all, scrubbing, cooking, opening lockboxes, no sheltered life right here-hangnails and all! Zero signs of lifting yet! The gel polish is chipped where I had to file them down a little because they were just too long. The kit and light are great. The smaller light is better than my normal led light because I can do one nail at a time and hold it in place too also love the motion sensor and auto off timer function. Application is very easy, it would be a great starter kit for a newbie. Follow the directions, watch some videos. Make sure those nails are DRY, it helps to wait 20 minutes after washing hands before application. Always use a dehydrator, file the nail beds, I roughed up the back of the acrylic nail too, use proper amount of glue, don't get glue on skin. Use common sense and like all nail art, practice makes perfect. I find it always helps if you start by completing your dominate hand first. I think I have tried pretty much everything on the market, and this is definitely worth the money! ... show more

  • A review for TRUE BEGINNERS!!
Getting straight to the point… 1. Is this a good starter kit? Yes, since they’re full cover nails and they give you a UV lamp, nails galore and a great glue that can also act as a base coat gel. 2. Is the nail glue easy to work with? It’s easy to apply. Personally, I would apply it to your natural nail and then put the left over amount on the brush at the back of the artificial nail. You just need it on the upper end of the artificial nail. However, nail glue attracts dust everywhere. I wouldn’t work with this nail glue while your hands are on a towel. If you have high pile carpet, stay away from it if you use the nail glue as a base coat for your toe nails. I would use another base coat only once I start applying the gel color. 3. Is the UV lamp good? It works, but please invest in a good UV lamp for all 5 fingers. Though the UV lamp works it’s not the best to cure nails when you start applying gel polish. You need a stronger one and plus you’ll be there all day doing them individually. Don’t get those travel sized ones either, you’ll end up curing a thousand times. 4. Are the Beetles gel color pretty good? Absolutely!!! They’re gel colors at very pigmented. If I was a good nail painter, I would of been fine with one coat. I did 2. Also!!!! when working with the gel if you need to go over anything, you have to go over the entire nail with another coat. Curing will set that color in place. So make sure there’s no streaks and don’t polish different sections of the nail. Just put another layer on. In addition, less is more. 5. Get a decent nail drill kit to clean up once the gel has set if you accidentally have some of the nail glue on your skin. You can’t just acetone it away easily after curing. You can find one on Amazon. 6. The acrylic nails are pretty good and the amount they give you will last a good deal. I have no complaints. I personally had to cut them down. I’ll update my review with the longevity of the nails and polish on June 11, 2022. That will be 21 days from now. August, 5th update: later than expected lol. So, the nails are great along with the nail glue. This definitely can hold up to 21 days without a doubt. The polish is wonderful for the price point. Less is more. That’s the trick with gel polish, but other than that the pastel colors along with their nudes are highly pigmented. ... show more

  • Not impressed
I was so excited when I saw this stuff for a really great price cause I’ve been wanting to try it with other brands but everywhere else is like 100+ bucks for the kit so I thought I’d get this one cause it had pretty decent reviews but I did see a lot of reviews about getting like a rash or the skin around the nails peeling off and figured that it might just be sensitive skin which I’ve never had an issue with, but first off it’s easy to apply once you get the hang of it (which was pretty quick for me after putting on a few nails I picked it up pretty quick on the same set) but although you can paint the nails before I don’t suggest it because it seems like it doesn’t dry them completely and when I ended up taking the nails off the glue was still pretty wet even days later around the middle of the nails but it dries super hard around the cuticles so I would suggest putting them on before painting them. They did stay on pretty good for the most part but a day or two after my skin around my nails started peeling off and cracked the tips of my fingers skin which was pretty painful so probably don’t get it on the skin, I probably won’t be purchasing it again from here or another company since the glue I use works amazing so I’ll just stick with that but beetles is one of my favorite brands so I’ll definitely continue to buy the polish but I didn’t really love this stuff ... show more

  • Absolutely worth every penny!
I love Beetles products because they are low cost, high quality, and look amazing!!!. I bought this kit to see if it would be as good and as durable as doing a full set of acrylic and if this would save me some time. I do my nails myself so it takes me quite a while when doing full tips and acrylic. This kit was able to cut the time in half! It was super easy to use. I roughed up the I side of the nail (at the nail bed part) with acetone and lightly drilled as well to make it grip better. I also lightly pre-buffed the end that goes up to the nail cuticle, so the nails would only need a small amount of buffing after being put on. Once they were in place and gel cured, I just cut, reshape, gel polish, and voila! They are not as thick as an acrylic set...they are more like if you were to grow out your healthy, natural nails and apply gel polish. So they are softer/ somewhat flexible when compared to acrylic, which is more rigid. This is also very durable. The set was done on January 28th, the video was shot a few days later on Feb 4th, and the pictures were taken today (Feb 15) after I cut them in preparation for "filling" them. I am going to attempt to fill and do just a light layer of acrylic instead of soaking off. But as you can see, no lifting and there was no chipping or breaking either... they are just growing out naturally. The polish is also Beetles from one of their gel sets. This kit and gel polish is a must buy! Fully worth it!!! ... show more
