UPDATE: After only one of two ordered units survived shipping, the manufacturer reached out to refund the cost. Note: We didn't ask for a refund. They contacted us unsolicited. Very cool of them. From ORIGINAL REVIEW: We found this huge box torn and shredding packing on our doorstep. A corner chunk of the outer cardboard was just gone. Inside the Styrofoam was pulverized. Of course the shelves were damaged. *If* yours does arrive undamaged, be warned that the instructions are very vague. You WILL take it apart and reassemble it at least once, as the diagrams make no mention of what direction the supporting metal brackets must face in order to attach the inner L brackets. ... show more

The bookcase is heavy. It's as if a neutron star exploded and someone delivered a boxful of it to your front door. They probably expect that 2 people will put this together and yet so many of us are like that lone cowboy out on the barren plains. Figure this is a Man versus Nature or Woman versus Nature type of adventure. Expect this will take at least an hour or longer to assemble. There are 60 or so screws to be turned, and then you have to balance the bigger unwieldy pieces on everything else in your workspace to align them during the Frenetic Fastening Phase (which is really the entire phase). You get 2 tools in the box. The wrench is thicker than tinfoil but not by much. No problemo - it serves a rather brief purpose adequately. The screwdriver? Ha! Ever eat hors d'oeuvres at a glittering Hollywood gala? Me neither, but still. Save that provided screwdriver as a substitute toothpick and get your hands on a much better one - preferably a Philips-head screwdriver with a nice, big, rubber-padded handle. The only issue you might have is with fastening the shelves. Sometimes you fasten them with the bookcase right side up, other times upside-down. If you have your own car-lift - go ahead and use that. Anyway, for two of my shelves - not all 4 holes lined up exactly. Still, this is a 'good' fail, because the shelves are going to want to stay in place anyway, due to gravity (see why science is so handy to know?). On one of my shelves, only 2 aligned. On the other, 3. The remaining 5 shelves - all four holes aligned adequately. The instructions are graphics only and it's perfectly fine. Assembly will take a bit longer than you expect and be a little more difficult that you thought - and yet it's worthwhile. You'll have a durable bookcase that will be the envy of all hors d'oeuvres-serving attendants, everywhere. ... show more

This was surprisingly sturdy for its price. I wanted something that was slightly MCM/slightly industrial, and this was perfect. You’ll notice I left one shelf off, that was because I’m obsessed with that stupid spiral light and wanted it on my shelf. There was no problem in durability by leaving the shelf off. Super pleased with this. Just as a side note, when you put the wooden shelves down, there are holes drilled to accommodate the screws that are sticking up. Make sure you line those up correctly. I didn’t do that had to redo a couple when I realized my mistake. ... show more

It was pretty easy to assemble between two people, arrived perfectly with instructions and all the pieces, it is very sturdy, a great addition to the living room, looks stylish, I definitely recommend buying it!
