  • Damn good game!
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|S Digital Edition: Phantom
This is by far the best Battlefield I've played since Bad Company 2. The devs did a hell of a job. It's fairly smooth despite a few minor glitches here and there. 10/10 would recommend.

  • Game had potential but EA is a terrible company and ruined it
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|S Digital Edition: Phantom
2025-10-24 This was a decent game on launch, but EA is a terrible company and went back on what they told players before the game launched. Don't get me wrong the first couple weeks the gameplay had bugs and needed attention. Despite that it was still pretty fun to play. If EA hadn't done what they did, this likely would have been a 3 star review. Pros: - Movement is more in line with classic battlefield titles and doesn't align with cracked out twitch shooters that many games use nowadays. It's nice to have at least one option for a game that doesn't have twitch mechanics. - Good selection of primary weapons, most of them felt good initially. Cons: - Progression for weapons is too long. At least double the XP equivalent in kills as BF4 required to max out a gun. - Very few pistols in game. There are so many pistols IRL that would give us other options if implemented in game, but currently there are only 4. BF4 on launch had over 10 for reference. - Netcode issues from the beta were much better on launch, but inexplicably returned a few days ago. This leads to issues such as the player experience instant death despite the death cam showing that he was shot 5 times. This is caused by a netcode issue that affects TTD (time to death) where all the damage registers on the player at once, instead of in real time as it happens. - Maps are meh. I appreciate that Iberian and Cairo took heavy inspiration from Seine Crossing and Grand Bazaar, but aside from those two the rest of the maps in the game have poor flow or are uninspired. Firestorm is nice, but that's a classic map and we already knew what to expect out of that. Now on to the big issue. Before the game launched, EA told players that every person who purchased a copy of the game would be entitled to host one persistent server for free in portal mode. They also told us that their requirements for these experiences to retain full progression and full XP would be much more lenient than they were in Battlefield 2042. The game launched, and that was exactly the case. When asked about concerns about server load due to all the hype for the game, EA assured players that they had it under control. The game launched, and despite some queue times to get into the main menu, players could play the game and setup servers that they wanted. However after the first two days the game was out, people including myself had issues hosting servers. Some were unable to host at all, while others (myself) could not host Breakthrough or Conquest and could only host Rush. EA responded to this 2 days ago by completely disabling XP and progression on servers with bot backfill. They did this because lots of people were playing on servers that they set up with bots and they deem those to be "XP farms." However they didn't just disable progression on XP farms. That would have been fine, if it were just on servers with settings like giving the bots 1 HP and only knives as weapons while human players get triple HP. They disabled progression on servers that were running official game modes but just had bot backfill on to fill the lobby. This is bad because bot backfill makes a lobby lively even when there are fewer players on it. Most people don't want to play a 5v5 Rush game while waiting for a server to get up, or even wait for long periods of time just sitting on a server waiting for people to join. And regular multiplayer is a poor substitute, because it has no server browser, no viewable map rotations, and no persistent lobbies. This was a half baked solution to a problem that EA itself created. There were other better suggestions EA could have implemented in this game before release, but they stayed committed to the Portal model. Instead of staying true to their word of giving everyone who purchased the game the right to host a persistent server, they went with the option of trying to disincentivize people from doing so. Given the messaging on this issue before release, combined with the fact that the game released and for two weeks allowed these servers with no progression limitations, this is a very deceptive action on the part of EA, and constitutes false advertising. They lured players in, didn't do the right thing in paying for more server capacity to deliver what they promised, and then changed the game after 2 weeks, which screwed over everyone who purchased the game under the expectation that they would remain true to their word and just add server capacity. ... show more
