Description

Presenting fascinating information on all kinds of bats, from how they use echoes to hear, to the legends that surround them and how to protect the species Though people often think of bats as scary, bats are really shy, gentle animals. There are nearly 1000 different species of bats, and they live on every continent except Antarctica. Some are tiny, but the giant flying fox bat has a five-foot wingspan! Popular science author Gail Gibbons also discusses the efforts to protect the world's only truly flying mammals. A final page offers additional facts. Read more

  • Great information about bats
Format: Hardcover
Bats are amazing creatures, but many people are afraid of them. They are harmless animals that care for their young, help control the insect population, and pollinate plants. And right now they are in danger. Since people don’t understand much about these mammals, they destroy their habitats. Pollution and pesticides also threaten bats. And now, they face a terrible disease called white-nose syndrome that has killed many bats. Bats may be associated with Count Dracula but they’re not scary at all. In fact, they will probably never come near you. Bats provides a wealth of information so kids can learn all about these nocturnal animals and develop a healthy respect for them. I highly recommend it. Reviewer: Alice Berger ... show more

  • Can I give zero stars??
Format: Paperback
I was looking for an informative book on bats for my kids. Have had to rip several pages out of this one that had vampires, Dracula, witches, ghosts, etc. Not appropriate for young kids and completely unnecessary. I’ve never been so disappointed in a book purchase. If it wasn’t such a hassle I would have immediately returned it. ... show more
