Bought the BasicGear Cast Net thinking we were just going to do some casual fishing with Jimmy and Randy. Three foot, twelve foot radius, 3/8 mesh seemed straightforward. Ha. We had no idea. First off, before we even got to the lake, a raccoon somehow got into the attic of Jimmy’s trailer. Naturally, chaos ensued. So we improvised. Out came the cast net. Let me tell you, there is nothing quite like trying to catch a raccoon in the trailer park with a cast net while your neighbors are cheering you on. That raccoon is now officially retired from the attic life. Next, Randy tried his own version of “net skipping” while trying to impress someone on bail. Somehow he managed to fling the net perfectly, and yes, he caught him too. Total trailer park justice. Meanwhile, the original fishing plan? Totally successful once we got to the lake. The net is incredibly sturdy, easy to throw, and collapses back for storage without looking like a tangled mess. Caught fish, critters, and improbable human targets without a hitch. Pros: epic versatility, catches everything from bass to raccoons, built like a tank. Cons: You might end up needing a second net if you have friends like Randy and Jimmy. 10/10 would recommend. If you want ordinary fishing, get a pole. If you want legendary trailer park adventures, get this cast net. ... show more

Ive used it a few times now i like the coated weights the carrying & storage container is a huge plus and for the price feels durable and 3/4 mesh is perfect for catching any fish

It's a good little beginner net. Having never thrown a cast net and after watching some videos, I was getting a good spread after only a few throws. Unfortunately the box the little 3ft one comes with sucks. It's extremely difficult to open, you will want to get a little tackle box to put it in. A simple single tray Plano box should be sufficient. I also recommend dessecant in the box packets to help dry it out. ... show more

I bought this item to take to canada. Mainly to practice with it as I already had all my bait. Watched a couple of videos and my 3-4 try I did the pancake. Everything seemed to work just fine.
