The microSD adapter perfectly fits into my MacBook Pro and holds a 512 GB card. It works very well and is easier to extract from the slot than the previously used "designed for" MacBook Pro SD card. Works great. Thank goodness BaseQi was able to finally release this. Their original UHS-I adapter was great. I paired mine with a Lexar 1000x 256GB V60, U3, Class10 microSD card. Did a stress test and transferred ~150GB test file. Card and enclosure never overheated. ~90-110MB/s continuous write from iStat Menus process. No idea how accurate it is. It sits very flush with the body of a 14" M1. To efficiently remove the card, a longer nail (ouch) or a small prying edge tool might make it easier. Totally worth it to add some additional storage without stressing the internal SSD. Hasn't had any issues booting up and shutting down with the Mac. I leave it plugged in all the time. I just use a USB-C dongle with a bunch of ports and readers to make up for the loss of an UHS-II SD card slot. Keep in mind this product is just an adapter. It is a pin-to-pin adapter. There is NO IC chip, there is nothing that will limit or increase your speeds. All your speeds with this adapter are based on the microSD card you put inside. If you put a UHS-I microSD card in this, you will get UHS-I SD card speeds. If you want to see better speeds, you need to open your wallet for a quality UHS-II microSD card.

It is good; there is no issue with data transfer. However, the SD card fits very tightly inside this adapter, and I’m not sure whether this will cause any problems when removing the SD card.

let me preface that i freakin loved this thing until it almost bricked my macbook's sd card slot. flush mount, looks nice (isn't space grey but whatever) and the transfer speeds were comparable to all of the included microsd adapters that came with my cards. it usually lives in my mbp. i don't take it in/out very often, maybe once a week or less in the 14 months i've owned it. today i went to remove it and it would not come out no matter what i tried. i looked at the photos of how it was put together and it seemed like the top side of the case could be sticking up and preventing it from pulling out of the sd card slot by hooking itself on the aluminum. i was able to use an xacto knife and confirmed that was the case. i guess i could superglue it back together but i'm not willing to take the chance at this thing getting stuck again.

Completely stealthy way to add external storage to your MBP. This fits completely into the SD slot and you cannot tell its there, completely invisible. No more usb thumb drive dongle falling off. THIS DOES NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE MICROSD CARD'S READ/WRITE SPEED! I checked and got identical results for this and for the adapter that came with my microsd card. If you think its slow, get a faster microsd card. HINT: spend a little money and get a fast microsd card. It is a tight fit to get the microsd card into the adapter - be patient and it will fit in. Adapter is also a bit tight to get out of the SD slot but I had no problem using my fingernail. Excellent product.

Considering how expensive Apple's internal storage is, i've looked for solutions like this since my late 2013 Macbook pro 15 retina. PROS: -It sits absolutely flush with the Macbook pro when inserted unlike the Transcend JetDrive that sits ALMOST flush -You can upgrade the Micro SD card instead of having to upgrade the whole thing, like Transcend JetDrive. -If you keep the SD card at ≤512 GB, you can take advantage of UHS-II speed Cons: -The microSD cards can be almost too tight in the BaseQ Overall a great and versatile product to increase your internal storage.

It's perfect except for the price. The price of $34.99 for this adapter seems way too high for what it does. The adapter sits fully flush with the macbook and doesn't protrude at all. It also blends very well if you select the right color adapter. I bought a silver one and it looks like it belongs there. Even when you run your finger over it, it is barely noticeable. It is also easy enough to remove with a finger nail alone. I didn't check the UHS-II speeds since there were no UHS-II micro SD cards at the time of writing this review (at least not at a reasonable price). But this would be kind of future proof if you later buy a UHS-II micro SD card. I bought a 1 TB micro SD card to use with this and was hoping to use all the storage on this card for OneDrive but sadly, the OneDrive does not allow selecting this drive as the storage location on your Macbook. OneDrive requires the storage location to be a non-ejectable drive. This was a really big disappointment for me. I wish someone mentioned this to me in any of the reviews. One more thing, if the eject icon on the finder for this drive is accidentally clicked, it unmounts the drive and you have to physically remove and put it back. I hope they reduce the price on this adapter to a more reasonable rate. The apple tax on the apple hardware is already hard enough on consumers and I wish the third party accessory makers don't carry it on to their products too.
