Description

One of the most enjoyed American hardwoods for its fine-yet-open grain, unique patterns, and bold dark color. Walnut is easy to cut, shape and sand, and the wood takes on an amazing look with a clear finish. Black walnut, is available in many forms here at Barrington Hardwoods. It is a favorite for furniture, paneling, musical instruments and sculptures. Black walnut is from North America and grown for woodworking, it is a moderately hard wood with a rating of 1010 on the Janka scale. Our 2" x 2" turning blanks are surfaced hit or miss at 1-15/16", and are guaranteed to clean up at 1-3/4".

Ive ordered a few sets of blanks so far. They are typically heart wood. The last two orders had more sap wood. Luckily, it was lost when I turned the legs. I usually buy 8/4 locally, but I get these when I run out and have a single order to do.

Product quality is great. Length is 8' on the dot, but width is slightly less than 2'. 4 of them stacked together give a height of 7' 3/4. If you need them to be exactly 2', then maybe you need to confirm with the seller. Width and depth though are the same. It's a perfect square in section. I made it work as is, but it's not perfect solution. For being expensive like that I think it should be more accurate on the measurements. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. If you enjoy making cutting board, these turning blinks are perfect. They are more expensive than buying rough hardwood, but less milling is required to achieve perfect results, which means less wear and tear on my tools. Will buy again.

I've been buying these blanks for a while now, in walnut, cherry, padauk, mahogany and others. They are "pricey" but I don't have a thickness planer or a jointer, for me the fact that they are really well milled is the value I pay for. Also they are the right size for the stuff Im making. No knots, very nice grain, they are perfectly square on all sides. Usually one of the 4 sides has a bit of a rough finish, but it's quickly fixed with a couple of passes with a hand plane. They are 18” long. Maybe 1/16” shy of 2x2, but pretty close to 2” x 2” Very straight and even. I ordered 16 of them and they look great. Would recommend.
