  • pretty, but don't buy from Austin Bazaar!!
I wouldn't go to the extreme of writing this but it is the only recourse I have. Purchased as a gift. Tuning pegs were completely unusable. Austin Bazaar told me that I was outside of their return window. I pleaded with them to make an exception because of xmas (I was 15 days outside of their policy). Wouldn't even work with me. Still hasn't been played. I'm $100 in trying to fix it so far!! Don't know how much it will end up costing to fix and the person I got it for still hasn't been able to play it once 2 months later. The Violin looks beautiful and all they would have had to do to have a happy customer is let me ship it to them and they repair or replace. Wasn't like it had broken after a month or two of use- right out of the box the friction pegs were not matched at all and wouldn't hold a string for a moment. Takes time during the hollidays to find out that a gift is defective and then coordinate to get it returned. I'm really deeply surprised that an Amazon merchant wouldn't make a slight exception under the circumstances and help me out. I was very courteous in my correspondence with their customer service department and they said that I was outside of their return window and would not help me at all. Very very poor business practice. I really don't think I was expecting anything too much. Buyer beware!!! They won't help you. ... show more

  • I love this violin
My brother got me this for an early Christmas present and I absolutely love it. I’m an intermediate player, and I had been struggling with my tone. But I notice a big difference with this new violin. A much purer and richer sound before I even plug it in…and then, with my new Fishman Loudbox Artist amp, it’s such a delight to play. It’s renewed my enthusiasm for practicing. Just note that any new instrument will take some time to get used to…I still rely on a fingerboard, so I got a new one to use here, and we’re still getting acquainted. Also, I’m using my old bow because I think it’s a better quality than what comes with this violin. (…although it’s not a terrible bow…just make sure to rosin thoroughly). Also, I’m using my old case because I think it’s better. I don’t think you’ll regret choosing this instrument, especially if you’re looking to play both acoustically and electric. Enjoy! ... show more

  • poor quality
I can make a better violin myself, the sound qualitly from this one and a hand made one are no comparison, this should be worth 50$ at best. i was disappointed.

  • Nice but things to consider...
This is a very decent acoustic/electric violin for it's price. It cannot be played "silently" with headphones as this is just an acoustic with a built-in pickup. I find its super loud ( when not plugged in) compared to my regular, old, stradavarius reproduction. I definitely don't have a light enough touch yet to play my Barcus at a comfortable volume. The included matching bow is poor quality. I think the included case is decent but it is considered poor quality compared to other cloth cases. I thought the green version was slightly turquoise in the photos but it arrived a deep forest green. ... show more

  • Terrible
I've been wanting an electric violin for years and this seemed like the perfect choice, I mean pink? Beautiful! Unfortunately the first one I ordered had a problem with the fine tuners at the bottom, the one for the e-string was stripped. I figured I'd order a new one and return this one. Well the second one was a bit worse. The g-string was already snapped and the neck wasn't aligned correctly. I'm giving this one star for that reason. It looks like most of you have had better luck but I personally will not be purchasing anything from them in the future. ... show more

  • Don’t buy!
Terrible workmanship! E string wont play other than open, scratched on back, glue slop on bridge at pick up, lousy paint job, bow is fiberglass garbage had to order additional one, rosin would not take to bow had to use other dark rosin, and the case was pathetically cheap! Not worth $100 let alone $950!!! ... show more

  • Love this violin
While it is not the most expensive violin, the sound is nice. Bow could be a bit better, but that is easily remedied

  • WONDERFUL!!!!!
I originally bought a Cecilio Electric violin, mostly to find out if i really wanted to play the violin. The Cecilio was the worst purchase i have ever made. (See my review of that product, metallic blue, style 1). That was a disaster. However, when i got to my music store to see if they could salvage the cecelio, i saw the Barcus Berry (metallic green) hanging on the wall, it felt as if it was calling to me. It was funny because that was the exact model and color that i had been looking at before I bought the other. I bought this violin without a second thought! It is supurb!! I have had absolutely no trouble, tuning or otherwise, and would spend the extra money on this violin anyday. I am still using the strings that came on it and they are staying in tune quite well. I will update this review as soon as i end up putting the D'addario Helicore Medium strings i bought and report on the quality of sould and ease of playing again. My instructor even said that it is definitely "orchestra quality" which iis definitely one of my goals. She plays in 4 different symphony orchestras in 3 different states and this violin, the Barcus Berry "Vibrato" AE got her stamp of approval. She also said "speaking as an experienced violinist from New Zealand and multiple symphonies, it got her stamp of approval but that 'cheapo' Cecilio would never it into an audition". I was told i would be "laughed off the property, but the Barcus Berry is definitely a competitor" That just made my decision to spend the extra money on the Barcus!!! It fills me with pride and makes me enjoy learning, practicing and playing altogether! An AWESOME investment for my future!!! -Jen in Alabama ... show more
