My neighbors have Bamboo growing in their yard and it was trying/succeeding to spread into my backyard. For two years I trimmed it back and pulled out roots and swore a lot. Last year I installed this bamboo shield (no small feet/swore a lot) and so far so good.

    • Block Intrusive Sabal Palm Roots

I bought this material to block intrusive two Sabal Palm root systems. I replaced older landscape plantings with caladiums last May. The caladiums flourished until September when they started to fail. I had excavated some of the palm trees roots but obviously not enough. The roots had grown under the mulch and over the bulbs causing the bulbs not to be able to send new growth upwards. The palms were planted in 1981 and are about 20-25 feet tall. I have just about finished cutting and digging out roots down to an 18" depth and out up to 6 ft from base of trees - no small feat. I plan to cut the Bamboo shield to put around the trunks about 12" off the trunk at a depth of 18". Once that is done I will replant about 100+ caladium bulbs that I dug up and hope they grow. The palm tree roots appear to grow out and down for the most part so I hope the Bamboo shield works to keep the roots deep under ground. Not sure if cutting all this tree root matting will damage the trees but they are larger than I would like so if I lose them I won't be too upset. ... show more

Those plants we love, like yarrow. The leaves are so delicate, but the rhizome is vicious at taking over the garden so I fell across this to keep the yarrow in it's small area. It's only year one, but so far, it's doing the job it's supposed to do. Happily. And I only wish I'd done it to the mint too..(but too late and we live in an area where mint dies in fall till late spring.) ... show more

    • Good quality barrier for the price

This is a nice quality barrier for the price and comes with decent directions which make it clear to not place this vertically. The hardest part is digging the trench for it but I managed alright. If you're placing this in a straight line I recommend unrolling it and then re-rolling it up the opposite way so as to remove the curl (this is kind of tough to do). At the very least I'd recommend laying it out flat for a while with some weight on it to make installation easier. If you're using it for a circle trench then you shouldn't have to worry about that even though it will probably help in that case, too. ... show more

    • Save time: rent a ditch digger

I've put in a few of these and my best advice is to rent a ditch digging machine as it makes it far easier. You really need to dig down about 30" to get it to fit right and that's a pretty deep ditch in most soils at 50+ feet. Second best is have your kid dig though your results may vary...

    • Surprisingly nice for a roll of plastic

This stuff is a really nice, thick plastic (about 1/16"). It's odd to say much about a roll of plastic but this struck me as a quality product. There was also a bit more on the roll than advertised so you can buy the needed length and not worry about coming up short. Do think about what it wall take to dig a 22" deep 15' long trench, though. It took me about 7 hours with a shovel. ... show more
