The mat is pretty stiff but made of decent quality. We will see if it softens after prolonged use. We wiped it down and aired it out but there is still a mild smell that makes laying on them annoying. I will update the review if the smell goes away. I was so excited to get this for my son’s birthday. Unfortunately, I’ve only had this for a month (and of course right after the return window closed) it is now losing its form, the seams are coming undone and the velcro has threads fraying. The cover has weird pulls in it I’m just so frustrated. For the cost I’m just shocked that it’s already in such bad shape. We bought this for our 8 yr old granddaughter for gymnastics practice. It is plenty long for her moves and appears very sturdy. She is in love with it! It was a good price compared to others I looked at, partly because of the purple color, but she loves it.
