I typically have avoided aeration and told myself that humate was good enough but I could not stop wondering what it would be like to aerate. I did not want to hire it out or get a big machine myself because I have a steep but narrow hill in my yard that I would not trust a machine on. These shoes always seemed gimicky and a lot of work but I wanted to give them a try. The jury is still out as to whether they make a difference, but here is my experience using them. The are easy to put on. The straps cinched up comfortably over my yard tennis shoes. I had not watered for about 36 hours which seemed about right for me. There were a couple spots where the lawn was still a bit wet and that is the only area where turf got stuck in the spikes. It was easy to get it out with the shovel that is provided. Prepare for exercise as this is not a simple walk around the yard. I am physically able to use them without issue but I still would not recommend mowing with them unless you mow very slowly. You do not exactly walk normally in these. Plus, that is just a bit too much to focus on at a time. Long story short, these put holes in the ground with a bit of effort. For the price, it also seems a low risk solution. Now to see if that effort will make a difference in the yard.
