  • A great modelling tool plus update
I purchased the Badger Krome after reading several reviews on youtube and other modelling sites. I primarily do 1/35th scale armor and have been using a Badger Patriot 105 for the last 2 1/2 years. I was intrigued by the Krome's two smaller needle sizes and the trigger limiting device. My Patriot is a fine airbrush, but I had difficulties with panel shading and fading with it's .5 needle size. I found the Krome to be a great solution for those issues as well as weathering. I use the .33 needle principly as the .21 can be finicky with acrylics and tip dry. I get great results and have learned a lot of the last few months to improve my skills. My trigger skills are better, but it is nice to have the rear limiter as insurance against the dreaded SPLAT. The Krome is longer and a tad heavier than my Patriot, but is well balanced and has a smooth trigger pull. I mostly use Tamiya acrylics and Model Master enamels and get excellent finishes using a 1:1 ratio of paint and thinner. Proper ratios and mixing are a little more critical with these smaller needles, but the Krome is very forgiving in this matter. Fit and finish are excellent and like my Patriot, the Krome is a breeze to clean between colors and after a session. Both needles require care when being inserted after cleaning, but not a chore. Parts are reasonably priced and readily available. The Krome is a great airbrush to upgrade to for a scale modeller looking for quality and versatility at a reasonable price. UPDATE: Having used my Krome for about a year now, it is still my go to airbrush and does excellent work. My brush requires careful cleaning of the needle and the sleeve it slides through between sessions. If not, there is sufficent friction to overcome the trigger spring causing the needle to stick in place. I wipe the needle clean with lacquer thinner and lube it prior to any painting session. This is a quirk that my Badger Sotar, Patriot, Patriot 2XR, and Anthem do not have. ... show more

  • Great for detail work
This is my second airbrush and I love it! My first airbrush was an Iwata HP-C, which I've used for about 3 years. The Iwata is great, but I really prefer the trigger feel of this badger over my Iwata. The Iwata has a slightly larger needle, so it gets better/faster coverage on large areas (good for shirts). I'll still use the Iwata, but for detail and control, the Badger is now my go-to. The Badger is well built, very comfortable and comes with a great case and accessories. I also really like the open cap design because I don't have to remove it to clean off any tip dry that may occur when doing detail work. I used to leave the cap off of my Iwata for that reason, but it leaves the needle exposed, and risks damaging it. I don't have to worry about that with the Badger because I can get to the needle tip for cleaning and the prongs prevent me from bumping and damaging the needle. The one drawback of this design is that you can't cover the cap and create the reverse-flow for cleaning, but I still prefer the open tip over the closed style. Also, Badger uses a different thread for the air line than other brands. That means you may have to get a badger air hose or an adapter fitting if you don't already use badger stuff. They can be found on Amazon for under $10, so it's no big deal, just remember to plan ahead before you check out or you'll be staring at your brand new brush for a few days before you can use it (what torture). All in all, it's a wonderful tool and I highly recommend it to people who want to achieve super smooth blends and laser sharp fine lines. ... show more

  • Not 'like new' but close enough-Update: NOPE
I bought this as 'like new' and it mostly was. There were smudges on it, and dried up paint in the bottom of the main tube, but this was easily taken care of. So for what I paid, yes, it was a great deal. All of my airbrushes are over 25 years old...so to say this was a step up isn't accurate. Badger is top notch and they back their product. The fact that mine still work fine after that many years is testament alone to their build quality. So yes, it is worth it. Like new, IDK about that but close. Just sent it back. I take very good care of my air brushes, but this one just quiet pushing air out. Zero. First it started bubbling, then no air at all. It is thoroughly clean. After a good, detailed cleaning, I noticed all of the dings and dents started appearing. It is a good airbrush....but I just ordered a NEW one for $15 more. I say no to refurbed. ... show more
