Description

Bad Trip - An Inside View of the Ride Share Industry is an attempt to help people thinking about driving for a rideshare service calculate how much they can expect to make. With some basic information and a calculator, the author walks readers through how to estimate how much money they can expect to make driving for one of the major rideshare companies, like Uber and Lyft. The theoretical estimates are backed up by thousands of miles carrying hundreds of passenger in actual, real world driving situations. The book also documents strategies for beating the baseline earnings estimate and keeping undesirable passengers out of your car. The book documents the author’s personal experience driving for both of the major rideshare giants. He recounts selecting a car, how to set it up for ride share driving, finding the proper insurance and the realities of driving, both as a part-time job or as a full- time living. The book covers the good and the bad of rideshare driving in unflinching, unapologetic honesty and detail. The author covers the risks of driving and his own close calls with disaster and undesirable passengers. The author also provides an unflinching view of the ride share industry and whether he thinks it can survive the current turmoil that has kept one of the major rideshare giants in the headlines. It’s a view through the windshield of a ride share car and you’ll want to fasten your seat belt because it’s going to be a bumpy ride. Read more

  • A witty, funny, thought -provoking behind-the-scenes look at the ride share industry
Format: Kindle
Bad Trip is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the ride sharing industry. I started and finished the entire book in two evenings. If you're thinking about checking into using your personal automobile to make a little extra cash or even as a full time job, before you have another thought along those lines you must read this book. In my case, I have no ambitions along those lines, and I doubt I'll ever get a cell phone app and use one of the ride share services. However, I really enjoyed looking at the industry from the driver's point of view. Poindexter's writing style is personal and funny, and the book reads as if you're sitting with him at the local neighborhood pub having a casual conversation about what it's like to be a driver. He's clearly an advocate for the good driver and accurately and with biting wit exposes the hype put out by industry trolls and commercials. If you're a casual passenger and have only used the services on rare occasion, Bad Trip is a worthwhile read. If you have ever thought you might enjoy being a ride share driver--the book is an absolute must-read. ... show more
