It's really soft, not super thick like a comforter, but thick enough to provide some cushion for him. I would still lay some pillows around him if he were sitting up and there was a chance that he could fall over - it's not meant to provide that kind of cushion. Perfect for what I was looking for.

Absolutely love love love this, I love that you can wash it and that the back is slip proof, and that’s a big on the safety list! I think it’s very comfortable for babies but if you have hard wood and plan on laying with your baby, it’s not so cushy for us, but it fits perfectly in my 50x50 play pen and the floral pattern was exactly what I was looking for as there are hardly in that pattern, so the color was exactly what I wanted and it folds neatly when you need to put it away
