  • Good basic info, some recommendations are far from bargains
As a new Mom, I appreciate that this is a "one-stop shop" for understanding different baby products. I like that it has "cheat sheets" for each section with the key things to look for in that type of product - for example a carseat with EPS or EPF foam, or a high chair with a removable tray. These are things I simply had NO knowledge of before and this was a quick way to break it down for me so that I could decide what it was I was looking at when bombarded with ads or in massive baby department stores. I liked that it rated items in different price ranges - a few in detail and then a larger group of products with a star-rating system on dozens of criteria. It also did a fair job of explaining what you *actually* might need, and gives you "permission" to skip some of the pricey or gimmicky stuff. I do think they could have included more budget saving tips - it seemed absurd to me that a "baby bargains" book still had strollers and cribs over $1000 each. Yes, there were lower priced options, but dang - if I picked up a "bargain" book I certainly am not considering spending +$2000 on just the crib and stroller! ... show more

  • Informative
I found out about this book from my sister-in-law. She had the older version so I decided to buy the latest version. It was very informative since it compiles all the best recommended product for babies. My only concern is that there's a limited information on how to prepare a layette. We will have our first baby so I am clueless on how to process on my baby shopping. I don't want to overbuy but I couldn't pinpoint the exact amount of clothes should an infant need. I wish this book will discuss that as well since its also part of finding bargains or budgeting for the little one. Overall though, this book gave a lot of information on best car seats, strollers, etc. ... show more

As a first time expecting parent, this is a must have book for doing research! I am the first of my friends and siblings to have a baby, so at times I feel that I don’t know where to turn for advice. • Terribly informative!!!
As a grandparent to be I bought this book to catch up on all things baby. I have a really good list going because of this books recommendation. They have at the end of the book 3 sections on product pricing from basic to the best. So, no matter your budget they have it listed.

  • and helps save time by narrowing down to just 3-4 recommended brands per item
It helps parents who are NOT too particular to make a concise list of what is needed, and helps save time by narrowing down to just 3-4 recommended brands per item. However, as I planned to be as minimal as possible and got all clothes and all gear except for car seat as hand-me-downs, it didn't really save me any money. It did save me some time. That being said, I am particular about re-usable, recyclable, not animal tested etc etc, and for that, I still had to do some research on my own. For example, I wanted glass baby bottles that came with caps and then can later just be used as small glass storage containers rather then thrown away and there is nothing in the book as "particular" as this criteria. And for parents who are interested in import products from Japan or Europe (formulas, or diapers, toothbrushes) there is no information at all. I do recommend the book as a general guideline, but parents who have set criteria and already do a lot of their own research do not need it. ... show more

  • Great resource. A very good recommendation by a friend
Great resource. A very good recommendation by a friend. We use it quite a bit to understand what we need to get for a new born. The book cuts through a lot of non-sense and noise, it gives you the details and info needed to understand important items one needs. We have used it to buy several items. Highly recommended! ... show more
