The boards are not long enough, or they're too long. It's difficult to place the X braces on the back (we, in fact, couldn't connect one end of the bottom brace because nothing would align. It's a great idea to tie the shelving unit to the wall, though I doubt it would fall without the tether. The one thing I hate most about purchasing new household items is having to put it together! When I saw these folding shelves I thought this is too good to be true and ordered 3. My son needed a good bookshelf in his room and I needed extra storage in the kitchen. The most difficult thing about these shelves is getting them out of the box. As 1 person setting these up, I laid it down with the red string where I could access it because I figured if it was taped to the outside of the box it must be important (it is, it's the feet that screw in to the bottom to level it) I pulled it out and fussed with all of the styrofoam pieces getting them out of the way and making a mess on the kitchen floor. With it laying on its side, I started at the bottom securing the shelves. They snap down onto the frame. After all 4 shelved were secure, I put the feet on the bottom and stood it up. It was done! Sleek modern look, instructions straightforward. The metal parts ensure that you don't do something stupid during construction that damages the stability of the book case. One of the bookcases had a missing part, but the vendor responded to my email within an hour and arranged for express delivery of the missing part. I NEVER write reviews, but this product just wow'd me. No, I am not some bot. I needed a bookshelf for my home office. I logged on and bought this thing. I am incredibly busy so it has sat in my office for 2 weeks waiting to be assembled. I finally said I have to get this done. I took it out of the box tonight and there is virtually NO assembly.
