– Honest Review I’ve always been an earmuff, wraparound-style hearing protection guy—but after using these, I’ve officially changed my mind. First things first: fitment is everything. You have to take the time to get the right size ear tips and foam inserts for your ears. That makes all the difference in performance. Also the cord behind your neck, if sunglasses lanyard/straps don’t bother you, than neither will these. My first test was at an indoor shooting range using a 9mm. Right out of the gate, the earbuds performed well and noticeably reduced the noise. Then I stepped up to a 10mm and a .357 Magnum—and honestly, at first, I wasn’t impressed. The noise reduction wasn’t what I expected. But after adjusting the fit—switching to the larger ear tips and foam inserts—it was a completely different experience. Once properly fitted, the earbuds effectively cut down the sharp report from both the 10mm and .357 Magnum. For the second test, I went to an outdoor rifle range and ran them with my two biggest rifles: a .45-70 Government and a .338 Lapua—both extremely loud cartridges. Again, with the proper fit, these earbuds handled it. The noise suppression was solid, and I had no issues with discomfort or ringing afterward. Final Verdict: If you take the time to dial in the fit, these are a game changer. Comfortable, effective, and way less bulky than traditional earmuffs. Highly recommend.

Not good for work.

I work in entertainment touring and bought these for work. They didn't survive. When using the foam inserts, they do take noise down significantly. The audio booster doesn't work in a concert, but it really isn't designed to, that wouldn't be a problem if sweat didn't keep activating the sound on mode when I want it off. Also, the left side died on the third use.

Mid range sound quality and clunky interface.

The hearing protection (NRR) seems to be very good, I do like the amount of custom fittings to adjust to your ear. The control interface is not intuitive as the Bluetooth controls are the physical buttons and the active hearing controls are captivate touch buttons on the ear piece itself, really all controls should be with the physical buttons. For some reason the active hearing is not automatically turned on when you first power on the device which is a bizarre design choice and fairly annoying, but the headset does let you know that you have entered the world of Axil. The sound quality is mid tier, about what a pair of walkers would be, they amplify a lot but end up amplifying very close noise and white noise as well making hearing distant sounds challenging. Compared to a set of Peltor comtacs or sport tacs the signal to noise ratio isn't close, the Peltor's sound quality is significantly better for a similar or cheaper price on the sport tacs. Overall I wouldn't say these are a great value for the money unless you need earbud style hearing protection which compared to Milwaukee's ear buds these are probably a great value. However for me I will probably keep using my Peltors.

Great retention and sound, but they hurt

I really wanted these to work out. The music sound quality is surprisingly good, the retention is fantastic, and suppression at the range is good. The variety of ear foamies is really nice, found 2 sets that felt good and had a hard time deciding between them. My issue....the concha wings, even the smallest ones, push against a ridge in my left ear that hurts like crazy. First time I put them on, it took about 45 mins to start hurting. Subsequent fittings were painful from the start. I know this is specific to just my one ear - the other one was fine. Unfortunately I will return these for this reason....everything else was great about these. I really wish they had worked out. I'd give functionality 5 stars. Taking one off for fit. Would recommend to anyone as long as they fit well.

Awesome Mid-Range Ear Protection

The AXIL GS Extreme 3.0 is a pretty slick upgrade. It basically jams three different devices into one pair of earbuds, giving you high-end hearing protection, the ability to crank up ambient sounds so you can actually hear people talking, and Bluetooth for your music or calls. This 3.0 version is a step up because it lasts way longer than the older models, giving you about 25 hours of battery life for just the hearing enhancement or around 8 hours if you’re streaming audio at the same time. They’ve also revamped the fit with a "Lock-n-Loaded" design that hooks into your ear, so they won't go flying if you're moving around a lot. The sound compression is super fast, which is the most important part, as it shuts out loud bangs instantly while still letting you hear the gravel crunching under your boots. It’s a great pick if you hate the bulk of traditional over-ear muffs, especially in hot weather or when you're trying to get a good cheek weld on a rifle. Get them.

Wanted to love these, but the controls and sound quality were disappointing

I really wanted to like these, especially because I liked the idea of having electronic hearing protection in an earbud instead of wearing bulky muffs while shooting. Unfortunately, the AXIL GS Extreme 3.0 just didn’t work well for me. My biggest frustration was the controls. I found them surprisingly unintuitive, and even something as basic as figuring out whether I had them turned on or off was more difficult than it should have been. That sounds ridiculous for a pair of earbuds, but the included directions weren’t nearly as clear as I expected them to be. I found myself messing with the controls instead of just putting them in and using them. I was also disappointed with the electronic hearing enhancement. I’m used to Walker electronic muffs, and the ambient sound through these was noticeably worse to me. Voices and surrounding sounds just didn’t come through as naturally or clearly as they do with my Walkers. For something at this price point, I expected the electronic hearing portion to be an upgrade—or at least comparable—and it wasn’t. I do like the concept. Having low-profile hearing protection that doesn’t interfere with a hat, eye protection, or a rifle stock is appealing, and I can see why some shooters would prefer this style. But ease of use and good ambient hearing are pretty important to me, and these fell short in both areas. They may work great for someone else, but for me, I ended up going with the Axil XCOR Pros and am much happier with those.

Amazing Ear Pro

These are by far one of the best purchases I've made for my range trips. They are comfortable, very diverse with how many options they provide for fit, and the sound reduction and protection they offer are superb. These are the first in ear hearing protection that actually protects my hearing. It allows me to look through my lpvo without cranking my neck in crazy positions due to the ear muffs being in the way. I would recommend these to anyone.
