I have wanted to upgrade to LED brake lights for many years, but have heard many negative points on them in the past. LEDs will virtually always last longer than any incandescent bulb, but the problem in the past with the new LED bulbs for automotive applications is that they have not been brighter than the incandescent replacement! Such an LED replacement is completely worthless and defeats the point of upgrading to a newer technology. Well, I recently searched LED tail lights again since I live in a major Metro area and traffic has only gotten worse as development increases and more people get on the roads. It seems that I am always being tailgated by the driver behind me. So having appropriate brake lights is an essential now, not just a "cool" looking upgrade. I bought the AUXLIGHT Red 1156 replacement bulb and literally just installed it and tested it out. It works just as expected from the reviews. At first I thought the 5x strobe effect was excessive and too prolonged as someone else mentioned in a negative review. But when I think about it, the truth is that there is a need for it. Why? Texting and driving. Although, it has been banned and you can be ticketed for texting while driving, needless to say people are still looking at their phones even if they are not texting. Therefore, the 5x strobe effect will get someone's attention even if their eyes were fixated on their phones for a few seconds. The strobe effect lasts for about 5 seconds, which should definitely be enough time to be noticed. Another factor that I considered when replacing my third brake light (high mount brake light) was the fact that a I recently switched my vehicle to a Minivan from a car. Braking in this vehicle takes longer. It is significantly heavier than the vehicle I had previously. Whenever I intend to apply the brakes heavily I will generally tap my brakes in an attempt to notify the person behind that I am going to brake. But with this vehicle I am not afforded the ability to tap my brakes since I have a longer braking distance. Therefore, I have to apply brake force quicker and remain on the brakes longer to stop the minivan before I run into the vehicle ahead of me! I believe notifying the person behind me of a heavy braking situation is not just a matter of courtesy, but safety as well. Me not being able to tap my brakes makes me believe I am more likely going to be rear ended eventually. All in all, I highly recommend these 1156 strobing brake lights. They are awesome and will serve their purpose well. If they last at least a year I will be happy with them. I understand this sort of bulb is a newer technology and you'll have to be willing to be the experimenter before they are consistently manufactured reliably.

Bright and easy to install. This was the only 1156 (single contact element) I was able to find that also had a built-in strobing feature. Older motorcycles, like my 1991 BMW R100 Classic have separate bulbs for the running tail light and the brake light. This worked out perfectly. See video.

Bulb didn't work when I first put it in. Tested it on the battery and it worked. Checked polarity with my meter at the plug and it was backward. I de-pinned the plug and swapped the wires and the light worked. I expect most of the people reviewing with a non-functioning light have this problem. It would be convenient if there was a diode bridge in the light to make it polarity agnostic, but it's a cheap light, what do you expect? The light appears to be plenty bright. I actually wish it didn't strobe as much as it does, but I'm not the one looking at it, so....

They are barely brighter than incandescent bulbs but the flash effect is effective and I am overall pleased since I have four brake lights and these only replace two of them.

My 13 Elantra uses the standard 1056 or whatever, and mine was burnt out, and I had it out anyway. So buy these.

These would be great of they only strobe flashed once or twice before going solid but 5 times is annoying to anyone behind you. You get 5 series of hyper flashing the first 10 seconds of brake application before going solid so most times you're just hyper flashing. Ridiculous. I've gone to different bulbs because of the excessive flashing.
